Job Description for Indeed

Position: Ashland, KY, Boyd, Greenup and Carter County, Kentucky Enrollment and Match Support Specialist, from hereon out to be called the EMSS

Position Reports To: Program Manager

Position Concept: The EMSS shall be a full-time employee hired by the Program Manager and Executive Director to assist in all areas of program growth/development in the Ashland, KY Boyd, Greenup and Carter County area.

Position Responsibilities: The EMSS is responsible for the following duties:

1. Recruitment/Public Relations: This position will spend much time promoting the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Tri-State program in the Ashland, Ky and surrounding area as this is a geographic area prepped for expansion of Big Brothers Big Sisters services. Promoting the program includes recruitment of clients (youth) and volunteer mentors (adults as well as Jr./Sr level high school students) as well as developing relationships with area businesses, civic groups, etc.

2. Client Intake: To be responsible for the intake (which includes sharing program descriptions, rules, etc; interviewing) of clientele (potential Little Brothers/Little Sisters,) the assessment of their individual needs, goal planning, and the matching of these children to an appropriate volunteer (Big Brother/Big Sister.)

3. Volunteer Intake: To assist with public relations and volunteer recruiting efforts and follow-up all leads which could result in potential volunteers. The EMSS will be responsible for interviewing, checking references, and training of volunteers, in his/her assigned service area and the refusal of any volunteers who do not meet the necessary standards for application.

4. Match Support and Supervision: Maintain regular phone or in-person contact with all clients, parents/guardians and volunteers after these individuals are placed in a mentoring relationship to insure compliance to agency standards as well as insuring safety of all parties; monitor growth and development of the client and the match; and to assist parties when there are areas of concern. To enter all gathered supervision case notes into an online system on a regular basis. To assist with the ongoing support and training of volunteers. To close matches according to policy at the appropriate time.

5. Group Activities: To assist with group activities held for the volunteers and children.

6. Fundraisers: To assist the Executive Director with the agency’s various fundraisers in whatever capacity is needed.

7. Assistance: To assist with and/or perform other such duties as assigned by the
Program Manager and/or Executive Director.

Position Qualifications:

  • The EMSS shall have a minimum of a B.A. Degree preferably in a human service field, i.e., counseling, social work, psychology, etc. or B. A. degree in a related field with experience.
  • This position will have a training period of no less than one month in which the successful hire will be expected to be in the Huntington office a few days a week for training/onboarding. After training/onboarding the EMSS will generally be expected to be in the Huntington office one day a week and will work from the Ashland office 4 days a week.
  • The EMSS must have access to their own vehicle at any/all times. (Mileage is reimbursed.)
  • While the job is primarily a Monday-Friday, 9-5 position, the successful candidate must be willing and able to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for group activities, fundraisers, etc.
