We need a Community Outreach Specialist (COS), bilingual in Spanish and English. We will pay our COS $50,000 to $55,000 per year, we offer 401k matching, health insurance, and paid time off (PTO). COS must have a Bachelor's degree, two years Social Service or K-12 lead teacher experience, and be comfortable with public speaking, and a solid work history is preferred. Candidate ideally has contacts or experience with the Plainfield community.

Job Description

The Community Outreach Specialist will report to the Enrollment Manager and focus on recruiting volunteers and families for BBBS programs through various strategies, including partnerships and events. Their role is crucial in meeting organizational goals and grant requirements. The ideal candidate will successfully promote the agency as a top volunteering choice and is expected to have a strong community connection and dedication to the mission. The position requires frequent travel and flexible working hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

Qualifications:

Academic & Professional:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences or a related field.
  • 2-4 years in community outreach with partnership development success.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, with experience in volunteer recruitment and familiarity with child development.

Background & Skills:

  • Strong customer service, independence, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, CRM (Salesforce), social media, and design tools (e.g., Canva).
  • Excellent interpersonal and public speaking abilities needed.

  • Flexibility for job duties, including variable hours and travel with reliable transportation.
  • Dedication, empathy, and the ability to build relationships and communicate effectively.

Travel:

  • Willingness to travel 50-75% within the tri-county area, with a valid driver's license and dependable vehicle.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimal physical requirements typical office environment includes walking, standing, sitting at workstation, lifting and moving file boxes, and other items in the office, and between locations. Must also be able to stand for two to four hours at a time during indoor, and outdoor seasonal events. Ability to effectively transition between a work-from-home set-up to an office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

General & Administrative Duties:

- Ensure timely and accurate documentation, data entry, and maintenance in Matchforce and Salesforce.

- Adhere to child safety and risk management protocols.

- Address any issues impacting volunteer enrollment to the Enrollment Manager.

- Share reception duties and manage inventory for recruitment materials.

Community Outreach & Marketing

- Develop and execute marketing strategies to attract stakeholders and volunteers, and manage digital content.

- Identify and leverage community events for brand promotion, ensuring successful recruitment outcomes.

- Coordinate with teams to follow up on volunteer inquiries and assist in large-scale recruitment efforts.

Community Engagement

- Lead response to Spanish-speaking applicants and conduct orientation sessions.

- Handle inquiries, pre-screen for program eligibility, and facilitate the enrollment process.

- Regularly evaluate applicant flow to meet service goals and support enrollment interviews as needed.

Collaborative Work

- Partner with the Director of Partnerships and other teams to achieve agency goals.

- Engage in collaborative problem-solving and support agency events and initiatives.

- Other duties as assigned

As our agency grows, there is a need for a dedicated Community Outreach Specialist to lead our community outreach efforts and support us by ensuring an adequate pipeline of volunteers and youth for our program. This individual will value the necessary "little" things that must be done daily that, in their aggregate, are part of "big" and meaningful impact.
