Big Bend Community College is Hiring an Associate Faculty (PT) - Medical Assistant Instructor Near Moses Lake, WA

Position Summary

Big Bend Community College, a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington, invites applications for a Part-time/Associate Medical Assistant Instructor. This position is responsible to prepare and teach courses in the Medical Assistant program. This position reports to the Dean of Arts and Sciences and works closely with the Allied Health Coordinator. 

Associate Faculty receive quarterly contracts. Payment is made on a per credit basis using the structure below: 

Step 1 – Associate Faculty newly employed by BBCC with less than two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience and less than twelve (12) credits taught as the instructor of record.

Lecture $862.94/credit

Lab $1,403.83/credit

Step 2 – Experienced Associate Faculty with more than two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience and more than twelve (12) credits taught as the instructor of record.

Lecture $880.19/credit

Lab $1,431.91/credit

Essential Job Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Prepare and teach assigned medical assistant core curriculum courses (MA 111, MA 112, and MA 113) in accordance with the Master Course Outline and in consultation with the Allied Health Coordinator and the Dean of Arts and Science. Teaching assignments include day, evening, weekend and on or off campus assignment/labs.
  • Utilize best practices for teaching medical assisting, engaging and motivating students to succeed.
  • Meet the class times as required by the quarterly schedule and assist students as needed with questions related to the course(s) being taught.
  • Utilize Canvas, the learning management system at BBCC, to provide students access to course materials and the course gradebook.
  • Teach and maintain safety practices in the labs.
  • Support students’ academic success by maintaining regular office hour(s). Refer students to appropriate college resources as needed.
  • Foster a flexible, healthy learning environment with respect for student diversity.
  • Maintain positive and effective communications frequent communication with their students.
  • Maintain and submit grades and attendance reports to college personnel when required. Post syllabi quarterly to the portal for each course taught.
  • Maintain student course materials for two (2) quarters beyond the quarter of attendance.
  • Submit assessment data in consultation with a full-time faculty member in the department.
  • Assist with development, selection, and/or recommend selection of instructional materials for courses being taught.

Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current and unencumbered Washington State Medical Assistant-Certified or LPN/RN license
  • At least one (1) year clinical experience in an outpatient healthcare setting within the last five (5) years

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience teaching at a community college or providing training in a healthcare setting or inpatient education within the last five (5) years
  • Experience implementing strategies to improve student success and retention
  • Experience with online learning, hybrid courses, learning management systems (LMS)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency

COMPENSATION:Associate Faculty receive quarterly contracts. Associate/Part-Time Faculty earn sick leave on a pro-rata basis on in-class hours based upon their percent of full-time for all part-time faculty contracts with each academic quarter (fall through spring).

The college provides insurance and retirement benefits in accordance with the applicable statues and regulations governing Washington State employee benefits, funded through the state and in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the College. The Human Resources Office shall communicate benefit eligibility to all Associate/Part-Time faculty.

Retirement savings programs such as tax sheltered annuities, deferred compensation, and other savings programs are available for eligible employees who apply.
