Biddeford High School is seeking: HighSchool Guidance CounselorSpecific Job Details: Starting August 2024Under the general supervision of the Building Principal, to provide students, parents, administrators, and other teaching staff with information on career and or educational opportunities; administer and interpret career assessment tools; and assist students in developing educational and occupational goals and plans.School Description: The High School serves grades 8-12We expect staff and students to embrace challenges and strive to attain excellence while exemplifying Tiger PRIDE: Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Dependability, and Empathy.Find Biddeford School Department's Three Pillars of Commitment to Students attached.Brief Job Duties: The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas: Assists students in evaluating students' aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data, and works with students in developing education and occupation plans consistent with such evaluation.Assists students in making course and subject selections, as well as with evaluating career interests and choices.Assists in the scheduling of classes.Obtains and disseminates information regarding occupational opportunities to students and to classes studying occupations.Assists students with admissions, scholarship and identifying employment opportunities.Coordinates with administrators and other teaching staff members to ascertain individual student's abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and to familiarize stakeholders with guidance services.Researches educational and career opportunities, and coordinates with teachers, college and university personnel, resource specialists, and business and community organizations for the purpose of providing information, and making recommendations.Assists with the registration and orientation students who are new to the school regarding procedures and educational opportunities.Assists with the school district's dropout prevention efforts.Full Job DescriptionCertification/License: Certification/License: Maine State Certification as a Guidance Counselor (#075).Criminal History Record Check (CHRC), which includes Fingerprints on file with the Maine Department of EducationEducation: Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.Masters Degree preferred.Experience: Successful prior school counseling experience for the appropriate grade levels is preferred but not required.Live and Work in the Biddeford, Maine CommunityLocated along the Atlantic coastline with miles of beachesViews of the Saco River to its westLess than 20 minutes south of the Greater Portland AreaLess than two hours north of Boston.Home to a growing population of diverse residentsPicturesque downtownMaine's youngest city with a median age of 29 in the historic downtownThriving economyMany recreational opportunities, including fishing, hiking, biking, public parks, and kayakingEqual OpportunityThe School Department is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
