The Director, Engineering will provide leadership to the Engineering Department which consists of the functional areas: Project Management & Facility Engineering, IFM Power Plant Operations & Energy and Automation. This role will continually monitor and improve the organization to ensure cost effective customer service and maximize the benefit of its diversity. This position is responsible for planning and execution of Capital budgets as well as for Expense budgets in respective cost centers, keeping both aligned with the company’s business plan.

The Director, Engineering is in a leading role in the region Americas, hence collaboration with other sites and providing support is key for the holder of this position. Furthermore, this role is also responsible for SD4G role setting and execution.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Sets direction for Engineering management team.
  • Provides motivation, coaching and talent development.
  • Establishes service levels and assist managers in problem solving.
  • Sets strategies and goals enabling Engineering staff to meet customer requirements at lowest possible cost.
  • Creates and administers expense budget for Engineering group; steers expenditures to maintain budget goals and identifies improvement potential.
  • Ensures staff is properly trained to meet all government-imposed regulations and complete all daily activities in support of project and facility management, calibration, automation, utilities and purified water management, maintenance of facilities and systems.
  • Maintains network of support vendors in conjunction with Strategic Sourcing to provide BI the best service at the best price.
  • Develops and controls the annual expense and capital budgets. This includes directing the Project and Facilities group to ensure ongoing cost effective and timely implementation of capital projects.
  • Develops energy strategic plans, setting direction for the long-term commitments regarding power and fuel to ensure budget integrity. This includes directing the activities of the Utilities and Power Plant Operations Groups to ensure the uninterrupted, competent, safe, cost-effective operation of the Power Plant, ensure compliance with all regulations and provide environmental monitoring and documentation as required.
  • Directs operation of the mechanical maintenance contract for "Hard Services" through Project and Facility Managers and Power Plant Operations Manager.
  • Openly communicates with senior management and internal customers at all levels to develop and implement plans.
  • Communicates with adjoining residential neighbors to preserve the company’s image as impacted by power plant and/or other operations (acoustics, emissions, aesthetics etc.).
  • Regularly communicates with and updates local authorities to ensure relationship and compliance is maintained with all relevant city departments.
  • Completes Performance and Career Development Planning (MAG Plans) to ensure succession and talent development planning is implemented in the organization.
  • Enables the Automation department to run, upgrade and improve the site wide BMS systems and foster the collaboration with the global Automation group.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Master’s Degree preferred), additional business management education preferred.
  • Ten to fifteen (10-15) years’ experience managing project engineering and maintenance within a pharmaceutical company.
  • The needed judgment and timeliness of decision making for this position requires an in-depth working knowledge of the technical and business aspects in Engineering. This level of knowledge is achieved only after working in the industry for over ten (10) years.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations is required, i.e., GMP's / GLP's, OSHA, building codes, electrical codes etc.

Eligibility Requirements :

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
