Position Summary (for 12 month position):To provide instruction and care for students with severe and profound disabilities in a private day school setting by delivering high quality academic content instruction that is modified to their instructional level according to their IEPs, observe and support behavior plans, provide students’ personal care requirements, interact with staff/parents, and keep necessary records.Essential Job Functions:Plan and provide high quality academic content instruction to students with disabilities that is modified to their instructional level according to their IEPsMonitor and evaluate students’ academic, social, and behavioral progress and record student growth and outcomesAdapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needsCreate an environment that is positive for student learning and involvementMaintain appropriate standards of behavior, mutual respect and safetyCollect, analyze and maintain academic data on all studentsMaintain effective communication with administrators, parents, paraprofessionals, and related service providersServe as a liaison for a caseload of students; to include formal and informal testing as part of the special education evaluation cycle; writing assessment reports to present at IEP Team meetings; writing the IEP; and writing quarterly progress reports on IEP goals and objectivesProvide direct oversight of all Paraprofessionals assigned to the programImplements behavior support plans under the direction of BCBAPrepare lunch/snacks according to individualized student needsAssist students with eating and drinkingAssist students with gross motor skills including positioning students in supportive equipment and wheelchairs, working with students to sit up, stand, and walk, and assisting in physical education and leisure activitiesMaintain awareness of physical and emotional changes in students and report concerns as appropriate.Assumes all other responsibilities as determined by the Director of the Collaborative and/or Program Director/Designee Knowledge of:• Special needs of students who have severe & profound disabilities• Skills desirable for nonverbal students; experience with AAC• Diaper changing and alternative toileting techniques for all ages• General clerical duties including email, record keeping, and data collectionAbility to:• Develop and maintain professional rapport with paraprofessionals and other staff• Demonstrate sensitivity to needs of students, staff, parents• Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students• Supervise students• Follow instructions and independently make decisions within the framework of established guidelines• Operate standard office equipment (iPad, computer)• Respond quickly in emergency situations• Recognize changes in student behavior and appearance• Communicate effectively in both oral and written form
