Summary/Objective

The Resident Physician is selected through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) to participate in an ACGME-accredited post-graduate training program. Upon completion of the program, the length of which is determined by accreditation standards, the Resident Physician will be deemed to be board-eligible through the respective nationally-recognized certifying body. Position offered through employment/offer contract, as required by ACGME, which must be renewed on an annual basis

Essential Job Duties

  1. The Resident Physician will adhere to training standards set-forth by the ACGME and governed by policy and procedure established by the Graduate Medical Education Committee and the sub-committee on Clinical Competency, including limitations on practice according to PGY-standing and/or performance on clinical evaluations
  2. The Resident Physician, in consultation with the Program Coordinator, will be responsible for setting and adhering to rotation and call schedules, work-hours requirements and the timely reporting of required metrics and the timely completion of clinical and performance evaluations
  3. The Resident Physician will make every reasonable effort to attend morning report, scheduled rounds, grand rounds, didactic and guest lectures and any scheduled training or simulations, and will be responsible for reporting absences to program faculty, the Program Director or Program Coordinator, as required, including absences due to call schedules, clinical emergencies, illness, or any other acceptable reason for absence
  4. The Resident Physician will be responsible for maintaining any documentation required by the AAMC, ACGME, Texas Medical Board, hospital or program and is responsible for timely updating of documentation or any required licenses or certifications
  5. The Resident Physician will, at all times, practice medicine in a safe manner and in keeping with the standards of care, standards of practice, policy and procedure and guidelines set-forth by the hospital, program, bylaws, any governing body and in a manner in keeping with the Resident’s standing in the program and under appropriate supervision by the program faculty or a more-senior Resident
  6. The Resident Physician will be personally responsible for advancement in the training program, including the communication and dissemination of information to the respective national certifying bodies, subsequent training programs, prospective employers or any intended recipient of validated transcripts and training evaluations

Required Education and Experience

Completion of a Medical Doctoral Degree, including MD, DO or recognized equivalent

Certified eligibility to participate in post-graduate training programs, as determined by the AAMC, ACGME, and/or ECFMG

Determined eligibility through National Licensing Board Scores, as determined by USMLE and/or COMLEX

Satisfactory completion of requisite prior-training, where appropriate, as determined through program evaluation/s and/or completion of assessment exams, which may be necessary based on PGY-level, at time of entry into program

Must hold US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status or be the holder of a Visa accepted by the program

Required License/Certifications

Registry with the Texas Medical Board as a “Physician in Training” and assignment of a National Provider Identification Number (NPI)

No restrictions against eligibility for licensure, up to and including successful completion of OIG sanctions screening
