Job Description: OB Tech WOW 1 Labor and Delivery Job Summary: OB technician, under the direction and supervision of an RN or MD performs activities of preparation, assistance, and clean up for vaginal deliveries and surgical procedures in Labor and Delivery. Functions as a member of the surgical team performing scrub functions, and other roles, which support the perioperative plan of care. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: The following is a summary of the major functions of this individual's job. He or she may perform other duties, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below, and specific functions may change from time to time. 1.Demonstrates knowledge of operative procedure(s). Draping Instrumentation Suture Equipment Ability to set up and keep mayo and back table organized throughout procedure. Ability to correctly count and account for all required items prior to, during and following the procedure. Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon. Accountability in checking instrumentation, equipment and supplies prior to use in a procedure. Knowledgeable of specific uses of all equipment and supplies used for surgical procedures. Seeks out information and support for areas of knowledge deficit prior to use. Ability to plan, prepare and function in emergency situations. Has room ready prior to time for scheduled case. Minimizes turnover by assisting and preparing for next case by obtaining instruments, equipment and other necessary supplies. Is in OR room when patient is brought into the room. Participates in Time Out process for safety of patients. 2. Demonstrates knowledge of and utilizes principles of aseptic technique including but not limited to gowning, gloving sterilization and disinfection. Assesses safety and safe mechanical condition of equipment and report any malfunction. Demonstrates competency in handling, identifying and labeling medications on the sterile field. Properly disposes of sharps, ie, needles, blades, trocars, wire, staples, and bovie tips. Assists in proper cleaning, moving and storage of equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization/disinfection techniques and indications for each sterilization modality Demonstrates proper cleanliness of instrumentation prior to disinfection/sterilization. Corrects situations in support of surgical conscience as appropriate. 3. Assesses safety and safe mechanical conditions of equipment and reports any malfunctions 4. Assists RNs in direct patient care within their scope of practice including assisting in repositioning patients and assisting them to the bathroom. 5. Performs secretarial duties as necessary 6. Assists in cleaning and stocking rooms (LDR/OR), rotating supplies and checking for outdates, stocking LDR and anesthesia carts, and suture. 7. Maintains clean utility spaces in the department including unloading and organizing supplies 8. Transportation of patients in wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds. 9. Communicates effectively 10. Performs phlebotomy after completion of training requirements Requirements: Associates degree in surgical technology or 1 year work experience in a OB/surgical tech role required.
