ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Employees are expected to perform essential duties to performance standards. (BHP).

  • Completes Psychiatric Evaluation at initial office visit.
  • Completes Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) on admission and quarterly thereafter. AIMS is completed monthly for clients exhibiting movement disorders.
  • Evaluates all available clinical data (including laboratory and other instrumental reports) pertaining to clients’ physical status on admission and on all other occasions, when needed.
  • Performs clinical screening and referral of all conditions in need of consultation from medical, non-psychiatric specialties.
  • May provide telehealth services.
  • Reviews and follows up on treatments ordered by other physicians.
  • Participates in the Individual Service Plan (ISP) for each client assigned, with special attention to all medical aspects of the plan.
  • Reviews, approves and signs all Individual Service Plans and Quarterly Reviews of assigned clients.
  • Documents progress in progress notes at follow-up appointments.
  • Explains medication effects and side effects to client or guardian at admission with review of the Patient Medication information (PMI) for each medication.
  • Obtains or reviews clients’ or guardian's signature on the Consent to Treatment with Psychotropic Medication at admission and annually thereafter.
  • Prescribes, follows up and reviews all prescribed psychiatric medications.
  • Reviews all non-psychiatric medical orders and prescriptions.
  • Consults and advises the clinical staff and Chief Clinical Officer.
  • Provides vacation coverage as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in organizational activities as needed.
  • Represents BHP at state, local and regional meetings as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SCOPE OF SUPERVISION

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

Computer, telephone, cell phone and other general office equipment; audio visual equipment; personal vehicle.

CONTACTS WITH OTHERS:

Clients, staff, applicants, funders, vendors, community and medical professionals, general public, family members and significant others, and other internal and external job contacts.

CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION AND DATA:

Client records, drug test results, and financial information; and other confidential or sensitive information.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Good office working conditions when working in the office. When working in other BHP facilities, the employee is exposed to conditions within those facilities. Possible exposure to inclement weather and traffic conditions when traveling to and from worksites. Exposure to conditions typical to the medical profession. This position works in a Behavioral Health care facility. There will be frequent interaction with persons who are mentally ill, disabled, elderly or emotionally upset. Ability to telework during emergency health related or inclement weather situations, or as required by management.

USUAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee frequently converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. The employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity and eye-hand coordination when completing client records, performing general typing, word processing, paperwork and other similar tasks. The employee frequently sits for extended periods of time, and frequently walks through various types of environments. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when using a computer screen, and performing other tasks. The employee frequently sits in a vehicle for periods of time while driving to and from various locations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of: psychiatry; psychotherapy; counseling; prescribed drugs; leadership; management principles and practices; substance abuse and mental health recovery principles; medical professional ethics; human development; communication dynamics; community medical and social services resources; HIPAA and other confidentiality requirements.

Ability to: apply management principles to practical work situations; work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of Board Certified/Board Eligible Physicians, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Licensed Counselors, Social Workers, Nursing, and other disciplines to provide comprehensive care to patients; establish rapport with patients; develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and other job contacts; demonstrate respect and sensitivity for cultural and personal differences; contribute toward building a positive and productive team working environment; maintain confidentiality of confidential and sensitive information; consistently exhibit job competency, ethical conduct, integrity and trustworthiness; embrace and effectively adapt to organizational change; exhibit behavior and conduct consistent with BHP values and policies.

Skill in: listening; counseling; diagnosing mental illness; prescribing and administering treatment for persons with mental health illness; developing appropriate treatment plans; collaborating with medical and social service professionals and others; operation of computer and other job equipment; application of job software.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicable laws or regulations require that employees assigned to some jobs attain a specific level of education, experience, or training, and license or certification. For other jobs, a combination of various levels and types of education, experience, training, and license or certification may qualify a person to perform essential duties of this position. Qualifications specified for this position are:

Education, Experience and Training

Board Certified/Board Eligible Psychiatrist licensed to practice in the State of Ohio.

Licenses or Certifications

Psychiatrist licensed in the State of Ohio; state motor vehicle operator’s license.

Additional Qualifications

Upon conditional hire, and as a condition of employment, each employee is required to submit to and pass a drug test, criminal background check, and may be required to submit to driving record check, personal vehicle inspection, and be insurable under BHP’s driving insurance provider guidelines depending on job assigned job duties.
