Prevention Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY: The prevention specialist plans, develops, and implements prevention programs, environmental strategies, and promotes evidence based / promising practices that address the community's needs around substance misuse prevention and mental health promotion.

Accountable and responsible for the following results:

Community Engagement and Liaison:

  • Conduct needs assessments to identify local community needs.
  • Collaborating with partners may include state, regional, and local partners to assess local capacity for prevention initiatives.
  • Facilitate program implementation and evaluation in alignment with community needs.

Training and Presentation:

  • Provide engaging presentations and training sessions as required.
  • Address the specific educational needs identified through assessments.

Data Management and Reporting:

  • Enter activity data into IMPACT for comprehensive tracking.
  • Prepare and submit reports on time, ensuring compliance with deliverable requirements.

Strategic Prevention Framework:

  • Demonstrate expertise in the Strategic Prevention Framework.
  • Apply framework principles to guide and enhance prevention strategies

Community Collaboration:

  • Attend local, regional, and state-level meetings to support internal work and strategic community partners.
  • Foster collaboration with diverse stakeholders for effective prevention efforts.

Evidence-Based Strategies:

  • Develop and implement evidence-based strategies for community-level prevention.
  • Ensure strategies align with best practices in the field.

Program Development and Implementation:

  • Participate in developing and implementing prevention programs in collaboration with stakeholders, funders, and internal teams.
  • Contribute to the design and execution of prevention initiatives.

Relationship Building:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships across various sectors.
  • Establish new connections and partnerships to enhance community engagement.

Technology Utilization:

  • Utilize social media and other technologies for effective prevention and health promotion.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies relevant to the field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite

Cultural Competence:

  • Develop knowledge of community populations, including subpopulations with cultural and ethnic differences.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence in all interactions.

Program Support:

  • Assist supervisor and director in program-related duties.
  • Collaborate on programmatic goals and objectives.

Critical Thinking and Communication:

  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills in problem-solving.
  • Communicate effectively through oral and written channels.

Grant and Contract Compliance:

  • Carry out the goals and objectives of grants and contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with all deliverables as required by funding agreements.

Other

  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
  • May be required to use own vehicle on company business.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is an essential of this position.
  • Evening and Weekend hours may be required at times in this position.

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in public health, psychology, social work, health sciences, education, counseling, or a related field is required or may be substituted for associate degree with documented experience in areas of substance misuse prevention, mental health, community organizing or U.S. military training experience working with substance misuse prevention / mental health promotion.

PROFESSIONAL LICENSURE /CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Certified Prevention Specialist within timeframe as required to meet any program or grant related requirements.
