Job Description:

BeVera Solutions seeks a highly motivated and experienced Health Communications Specialist to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to carry out public health communication and marketing strategies, services, and interventions with the CDC Office of Science (OS) staff.

Responsibilities and Requirements:

1. Assist the OS staff in developing and implementing internal and external communication strategies and programs.

· Provide technical assistance in supporting communications requests and materials development.

· Assist with website content development and editing, material requests, and speeches/talking points for senior leaders.

· Engage with program offices and staff to provide consultation, gather requirements, and provide technical assistance in developing messaging and communications materials.

2. Support the development and dissemination of communications and marketing materials for multiple audiences including internal and external audiences, technical/scientific, and non-technical/scientific audiences using various dissemination platforms. 

3. Provide support by designing, developing, and supporting the dissemination of Guidance/Policy Tools, Template Design, Marketing, Dissemination, and Training related to science priorities and initiatives. This includes expertise in the following areas:

· Health communications content development

· Technical writing/editing

· Graphic design

· Web content design, development, and strategy

· Training curriculum and module design, development, and strategy

4. Provide support in developing and executing communication plans and campaigns by researching, designing, developing, disseminating, and evaluating communication materials using various dissemination platforms and providing support for the development, execution, and evaluation of dissemination plans of those materials to CDC Program Offices, states, federal agencies, and non-federal partners regarding the rollout of new campaigns, initiatives, policies, guidance processes, and procedures.

5. Support the quality review and editing of communication materials and products to ensure plain language, 

health literacy standards, digital-first, and 508 compliance standards are upheld across all material development.

6. Attend weekly team and office meetings, regular consults, and technical assistance engagements.

7. Provide communication expertise and strategic messaging (including website content, speeches, talking points, 

policy briefs, fact sheets, and planning documents) to further the outreach efforts of OS.

8. Assist the OS Leaders (unit leads and director) with the development and execution of project work plans and revise,

as needed, to meet changing requirements or directions of the assigned projects.

9. Assist and support the OS team to ensure communication tasks are completed.

10. Ensure communications documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.

Requirements

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of related information previously released by the CDC’s Office of Science
  • Technical expertise in planning, implementing, and evaluating appropriate materials for health education programs. 
  • Knowledge of grammar, writing, and editing practices, agency requirements for dissemination and publication of information, and the style requirements of the media and the publications used. 
  • Knowledge of publishing concepts, practices, standards, and technologies for the media used.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master's degree in public health, Health Communication, Health Education, Communication Studies, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • 5 years or more experience in health communication or public health, preferably within a governmental or public health agency context.
  • Former experience with the CDC's Office of Science and its initiatives, policies, and communication strategies.
  • Demonstrated expertise in crafting and implementing health communication campaigns, materials, and strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of health communication theories, principles, and best practices.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex health information to various audiences, including policymakers, healthcare professionals, and the general public.
  • Experience in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to achieve communication objectives.
  • Proficiency in analyzing data and evaluating the effectiveness of communication efforts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and project management abilities.
  • Candidate must be highly organized.
