Drop Box & Route Driver CDL

Job Summary :

Operate truck for servicing of drop boxes, provide transportation support to logistics team, and handle freight pickups, donation deliveries, supply delivery, and site-to-site material handling as needed.

Essential Functions

Route Driving

  • Complete all pickups and deliveries as directed by the Logistics Department and Senior Logistics Manager.
  • Assist Senior Logistics Manager with planning and updating routes and fulfill requirements of delivery schedules.
  • Unload / load and pack truck for pickups and deliveries, as necessary, and log all receipts in Salesforce.
  • Maintain schedule of servicing drop boxes (or donation bins), picking up local freight, delivering donation orders, delivering supplies, and handling site-to-site material handling for the Company.
  • Count, record, and submit delivery quantities in Salesforce and communicate to Receiving Department, Logistics Department, and Senior Logistics Manager.
  • Complete all paperwork accurately and in a timely manner, attaching electronic copies of relevant paperwork to the related records in Salesforce.
  • Maintain clean driving record. Report any defects, accidents, or violations immediately to Senior Logistics Manager and to Human Resources.
  • Driver is responsible for the daily inspection of the oil, tires, radiator, mirrors, lights, signals, and windshield, and any other truck-related considerations.

Report any damages immediately to the Senior Logistics Manager.

  • Driver is responsible for scheduling and completing routine maintenance with the trucking company who owns or leases the truck, as well as informing the logistics team of any such services.
  • Responsible for notifying Senior Logistics Manager of any mechanical, cosmetic, or any other issues with the truck or vehicle that may prevent the safe operation of the vehicle safely.
  • Responsible for managing and maintaining equipment and supplies used during pickups and deliveries.
  • Responsible for cleaning and restocking consolidation points throughout the warehouse.
  • Responsible for maintaining drop boxes / donation bins located throughout the community. This includes, but is not limited to, reporting damaged drop boxes (or donation bins) to any Drop Box Project Manager and to the Senior Logistics Manager, replacing drop boxes / donation bins when instructed to do so, replacing decals and cleaning in the space occupied by the drop boxes / donation bins.
  • Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (e.g., size, weight, route designations, parking, and break periods), as well as with Company policies and procedures.
  • Log all completed routes and daily activities through electronic form submission to the Senior Logistics Manager.
  • Maintain ability to park Company-provided truck or vehicle at employee’s personal residence.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Client / Vendor Support

  • Deliver excellent customer service.
  • Build and maintain vendor relationships to promote business objectives.
  • Communicate effectively via e-mail, telephone, and face-to-face interaction, with co-workers and customers.
  • Ensure integrity of product received by following standard operating procedures.
  • Communicate continuous improvement efforts with the department manager for the betterment of the company and employees.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Safely operate a 5-Speed Automatic, 26’ x 8’6 x 8’7 DSL truck with an air brake and a lift gate.
  • Able to pass a DOT physical every two (2) years. Ability to lift up to eighty (80) pounds repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Able to use a variety of software applications, including Salesforce, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and the internet.
  • Demonstrate a strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate professionally and effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be a team player and able to work in a fast-paced, exciting, and entrepreneurial environment.
  • Must have an understanding and commitment to the values and mission of Better World Books.

Qualifications, Training, and Experience :

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent. Shipping / receiving experience preferred.
  • Intermediate proficiency level of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel required.
  • Must have a valid CDL in the state of IN or MI.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
