Bethany of the Northwest is Hiring a Director of Nursing Services DNS Near Everett, WA

Bethany at Silver Crest is looking for a Director of Nursing/Wellness. Silver Crest is an Assisted Living community, in need of an energetic and friendly clinical/wellness leader. Responsibilities include:
1. Resident Health Assessment, Intervention, and Service Coordination

  • Perform initial nursing assessments/evaluations as required by state regulations and/or identified resident needs; assessments/evaluations are done prior to move-in reassess within 14 days upon move-in or when significant changes in condition occur.
  • Assist with Negotiated Service Plan development and modification, particularly with respect to health-related services, upon move-in, for periodic scheduled reviews, and upon significant changes in condition.
  • Perform focused nursing assessments/evaluations when minor changes occur; related follow-up and development of short-term health plans as indicated.
  • Identify and coordinate community resources.
  • Read communication log and related entries in Residents’ Service Notes daily.
  • Initiate and follow up with Short-Term Health Monitoring Plans as appropriate.
  • Follow up on unresolved entries in Residents’ Service Notes.
  • Provide non-daily, non-routine resident nursing services (e.g. Diabetic nail care, flu shots, etc.).

2. Staff Training and Oversight

  • Train new staff on health-related services and medication procedures.
  • Train staff on sharps safety at time of hire and annually. During annual training, include a review of current devices and procedures for safe sharps practice (Needle Stick Safety Act)
  • Review and retrain staff on general and individualized health-related tasks.
  • Staff notify Wellness Director of new/changed medication and treatment orders.

3. Coordination with Health Care Providers

  • Follow up on and implement new physician orders.
  • Notify physicians of changes in residents’ health status; consult with physicians about related concerns or questions.
  • Coordinate appointments with residents’ healthcare providers; coordinate residents’ lab work
  • Coordinate with home health providers regarding health issues.

4. Confidentiality of Resident Records and HIPAA Compliance (where applicable)

  • Assist staff in protecting the privacy of residents. The Community Director and Community Wellness Director are familiar with HIPAA guidelines (where applicable) and the basic principles for safeguarding the residents’ Protected Health Information (PHI). Regardless of HIPAA determinations, resident records and health information are regarded as confidential.

5. Oversight of the Medication Distribution Process

  • Oversee the cycle-fill process and order non-routine medications.
  • Consult with consulting pharmacist(s); implement recommendations as appropriate. This is a key aspect of the Wellness Director’s medication system oversight responsibilities. (See the Medication and Pharmacy Services Resource Guide.)
  • Oversee appropriate documentation in the medication administration records; follow up and retrain staff as necessary.
  • Oversee the appropriate destruction of medications.
  • Oversee the appropriate storage of medications and health-related supplies.
  • It is expected that the Wellness Director completes a medication pass once each month. The selected medication pass shift varies from month to month.

Qualifications:*

  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and possess the ability to communicate effectively with clients/residents, families, physicians, peers, staff, supervisors and managers as well as staff in community organizations.
  • Must possess the ability to work alone and be able to set and accomplish care goals without direct supervision.
  • Ability to understand and address customer expectations and provide excellence in care and service consistent with the organization’s mission.
  • Working knowledge or self-initiative to become knowledgeable of applicable local, state, and federal laws and accreditation standards as applicable to the role.
  • Must be able to communicate in English both verbally and in writing, in a way that is understood by clients/residents, family members and others related to the care team.

Experience/Skills:

  • Three years Director of Nursing experience with five years preferred. If less than three years, possess intent to be trained and stay with the organization for at least a year.

Education:

  • Registered Nurse

Licensure/Certification:

  • Current Washington State Registered Nursing licensure without restrictions
  • Current CPR Certification
