Bethany Children’s Home is a non-profit organization located in Womelsdorf, PA (about 30 minutes west of Reading, PA), that aids children (ages 5-20) who are either temporarily or permanently removed from their current living situations due to safety concerns. Youth who reside on campus live in historic cottages and are supported by our staff. Our mission is to provide a safe place of nurture, protection, and supportive care to aid our residents in their self-understanding, growth, and healing toward a brighter, healthier future.

The Helping Hands program in Bethany Children’s Home is currently in need of a Bilingual Teacher. Helping Hands is a temporary residential shelter care service for unaccompanied migrant children ages 0-17, the main goal of the program is to reunify the youth with their families in the United States. The Teacher is responsible for providing educational services to non-English speaking learners in a structured classroom setting.

Responsibilities

• Provides educational services that reflect basic, age-appropriate academic competencies.
• Delivers curriculum for the key subject areas of Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, Reading, Writing and Physical Education.
• Teaches the English language to develop basic interpersonal communication skills.
• Recommends both short-term and long-term educational needs to the Educational Coordinator.
• Utilizes technology and the assistance of Educational Aides and Youth Workers as classroom resources.
• Ensures that youth are participating in physical education consisting of at least one (1) hour of large muscle activity during the school day.
• Ensures that appropriate leisure time is provided for reading materials in languages other than English.
• Demonstrates an understanding of the developmental milestones of youth.
• Other duties as required.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in both written and verbal Spanish and English.
• Must have Bachelor’s Degree in education or human services.
• Two (2) years of classroom experience with non-English learners is preferred.
• Must be over the age of 21.
• Valid driver's license.
• Must be available for a 2-week paid training upon hire.
