Beth Israel Lahey Health is Hiring a General Maintenance Mechanic (36hr, Night) Near Needham, MA

Usual schedule is Sunday, Monday and Tuesday 6:30pm-7:00am including holiday rotation and occasional need to change schedule
BID Needham will pay a $3,000 signing bonus (in two payments over 12 months) to hired candidates for this position. Candidates will receive $1,500 on the pay date following 30 days of hire; and, another $1,500 on the pay date following 12 months of service in the role.
Important Details:
•Employees applying internally from within BID Needham or another BILH entity are not eligible for this signing bonus program.
•Re-hires may receive signing bonuses if they terminated their employment with BID Needham more than a year before new hire date. This includes students, volunteers and interns who have worked (paid or unpaid) at BID Needham.
•New employees must be in good standing at the bonus payout dates to receive payout.
•Bonus eligible jobs are subject to change based on the hospital's hiring needs and will be determined by Human Resources on an ongoing basis. HR reserves the right to change the bonus eligible jobs at any time. Additionally, all payouts are subject to standard state and federal tax withholdings and are processed through payroll.
Job Summary: Perform a variety of duties in and around the building of the hospital complex to assist the tradesmen in completing their tasks.
Job Description:
Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Assists with repairing and replacing drains, fixtures, rodding, cleaning, etc. as assigned.
  2. Administers to general repairs i.e. plunging toilets and drains, greases fan motors.
  3. Works independently.
  4. Completes preventative maintenance task on time.
  5. Communicates issues to his/her supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
  1. High School diploma or GED required. Vocational or Technical training preferred.
  2. MA Driver's License
  3. 0-1 years related work experience required.
  4. Previous experience preferred
  5. Good driving record
  6. Basic familiarity with computers. Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

  2. Problem Solving: Ability to address problems that are routine, somewhat repetitive and generally solved by following clear directions and procedures and by identifying opportunities for process improvements.
  3. Independence of Action: Ability to follow general instructions and procedures as provided. Work is monitored by supervisor/manager.
  4. Written Communications: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.
  5. Oral Communications: Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
  6. Knowledge: Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use them in routine situations. Specialized knowledge not required.
  7. Team Work: Ability to interact respectfully with other employees, professional staff and/or external contacts to offer ideas, identify issues, obtain information or deliver services.
  8. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Age based Competencies:
Employees in this job must be competent to provide patient care to the following age groups: Neonatal:Birth to 6 months, Youth: 6 months to 16 years, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 -.
Physical Nature of the Job:
Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or 50 pounds of force frequently. Work is physically demanding and requires extended periods of standing and/or moving.
