Job Description:

Duties/Responsibilities

Clinical

The Nurse Practitioner shall provide the following clinical services to patients of Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth and the Gastroenterology (GI) Practice:

  • Assess physical and psychosocial status of patients by means of interview and by obtaining health and medical history of patient
  • Perform a physical examination of each patient or assure that a recent physical examination of each patient has been performed prior to the provision of additional services;
  • Care for patients suffering from acute and chronic diseases by managing therapeutic regimens;
  • Evaluate patients based on the patient’s physical health, psychological, social, economic, educational, functional or developmental status as appropriate to the patient’s treatment;
  • Provide a comprehensive history of past pharmacological interventions and current drug therapy for patients under his/her care;
  • Communicate with the referring physician to assure continuity of care; and
  • Arrange for any necessary testing, physical examination and/or consultation as may

be required.

  • Perform other duties as reasonably assigned.

  • Establish relationships with professional and/or other health-related groups within the community;
  • Share clinical expertise with professional and supportive personnel;
  • Document and report care in an accurate, timely manner using appropriate forms and Records;
  • Function as an integral member of the GI team and collaborate with other health disciplines to ensure continuity and quality of care; and
  • Use interpersonal skills to work productively with all levels of hospital personnel.

Skills

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate with diverse populations, including providers, patients, and families;
  • Analytical skills to evaluate patient status and healthcare procedures/techniques and to monitor quality of care;
  • Willingness to learn and remain flexible in the changing healthcare environment;
  • Ability to conceptualize, develop, and implement new ideas or systems;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion while performing duties;
  • Ability to meet with the public outside the organization and efficiently market and promote the GI practice;

Continuous Quality Improvement

  • Identifies, analyzes, and resolves patient care problems to foster significant improvement in patient care;
  • Participates in interdisciplinary continuous quality improvement activities on an ongoing basis; and
  • Demonstrates a commitment to improving the quality of care provided to patients.

Education/ Certification Required

  • Masters in Nursing from an accredited program
  • Currently licensed in Massachusetts as an APRN (without restriction)
  • Experience with short term, solution focused, medication therapies
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams
  • Experience using an electronic health record
  • Must be eligible for credentialing and contracting with all insurers, including MBHP

Physical/Environmental Requirements

  • Work requires reading, writing and checking documents for accuracy, opening attachments and inputting/editing words or data into or from a computer system (Microsoft office, word, excel)
  • A reliable car and the ability to drive between offices and various meeting locations
