GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Warehouse & Distribution Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of warehouse operations, including logistics, and safety and personnel management across multiple warehouse locations in the organization. This role will lead the execution of the WMS operations and drive activities to achieve cost targets and improve performance in the areas of warehouse true efficiency, safety, order quality and warehouse capability while ensuring compliance objectives are met. This critical role will maintain positive employee relations and ensures the efficient receipt, storage, and distribution of goods, coupled with servicing our partners in Operation/Production within the area.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Warehouse Operation
    • Direct and support all warehouse activities and functions of distribution operations. This includes receiving, warehousing and fulfillment.
    • Support and optimize the layout and organization of warehouses or storage facilities to maximize space utilization.
    • Collaborate regularly with procurement, sales,
    • Accountable for all productivity, quality, cost, delivery, safety and motivation key performance metrics
    • Identify day-to-day operational issues and develop strategic solutions to drive towards short- and long-term performance goals
    • Implement efficient workflow processes to maximize productivity and minimize errors.
  • Personnel Management
    • Evaluate area locations personnel capabilities, skills and resource alignment to ensure performance against objectives.
    • Recruit, train, and manage warehouse staffs.
    • Establish clear performance and behavioral expectations for all employees, build people capability through effective employee relations, hiring, training and communication for front-line hourly and salaried personnel.
    • Promote all company policies and procedures, including safety rules and regulations.
  • Quality Control
    • Coordinate and support quality control standards for incoming and outgoing products
    • Conduct regular inspections to ensure product packaging meet company standards.
    • Investigate and resolve quality-related issues promptly.
  • Inventory Receiving & Shipping
    • Oversee the receipt of incoming shipments, verifying their accuracy against purchase orders
    • Manage the efficient loading and unloading of trucks and containers
    • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of shipping documents and labels
  • Equipment and Facility Management
    • Maintain and oversee the operation of warehouse equipment, including forklifts,etc.
    • Manage facility maintenance, repairs, and security to ensure a safe and efficient working environment
    • Participate in strategic discussions regarding future expansion and/or consolidation of warehouse areas
  • Cost Control
    • Monitor and control warehouse operational expenses, including labor costs and equipment maintenance
    • Identify and implement cost saving initiatives such as logistic cost and MRO.
  • Reporting and Documentation
    • Generate reports on warehouse performance, including inventory levels, order accuracy, and shipping metrics
    • Maintain accurate records of inventory movements, adjustments, and disposals.
    • Collect OTIF rate and other KPI’s for benchmark and root cause analysis

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

Performs a variety of leadership duties and job tasks within assigned department and/or work area, ensuring that all applicable safety laws/regulations, as well as state/federal employment laws that pertain to position are followed in accordance with Company policies, procedures, standards, and work-rules.

  • Supports Company policies, procedures, and work-rules and ensures that department employees comply with policies, standards, and work-rules.
  • Assists with interviewing and selection process of new hires for department, ensuring that non-discriminatory laws and guidelines are followed.
  • Provides coaching, guidance, and training to department employees; ensures that employee meets company standards and work expectations as required by job description.
  • Reviews safety rules with new department employees, ensuring that Company safety policies and work rules, as well as machinery safety rules and guidelines are understood, before the worker is allowed to operate machinery independently; participates in injury/accident investigations, and completes necessary reports; conducts daily safety inspections of machinery and work area.
  • Counsels and disciplines employees, as needed, to ensure compliance with Company policies, standards, and work rules.
  • Sets a positive example of leadership to others within the department and throughout the organization; promotes a leadership style that encourages open communication, positive team-building efforts and employee morale.
  • Completes 90-Day and annual employee performance evaluations for all department employees.
  • Participates in employee suspension and termination meetings.
  • Performs other supervisory and managerial duties as needed/requested by senior management.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, education, and/or abilities required for the job:

  • Strong leadership skillsability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient skills in reading, writing, and speaking in English; bilingual (English/Mandarin or Spanish) skills a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills & techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS) and related software
  • Basic math skills; proficiency with 10-key calculator.
  • Effective planning & organizing skills; ability to handle multiple task/duties.
  • Proficient PC skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Experienced in motivating, supervising, and training warehouse personnel.
  • Ambitious, self-starter, self-motivated, with get-it-done attitudestrives for results and utilizes sound business judgement to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Demonstrate commitment, pride, and integrity in a team-centric environment.
  • Certified in forklift training with ability to train staff on forklift operations.
  • Knowledge of different types of warehouse equipment and racking systems.

SELECTION GUIDELINES

The appropriate knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position are achievable through the following combination of education, work experience and training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, logistics, or a related field preferred (or equivalent work experience)
  • 10 years of experience leading large team
  • 5 years of experience leading operations in a warehouse or distribution environment
  • Any combination of experience, education, and training that provides the level of knowledge, skills, and experience needed to successfully perform the job.
  • APICS training and/or certification desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

The essential functions of this job require the employee to perform the following physical activities during the course of work:

  • Communicates orally with management, employees, co-workers, vendors, suppliers, governmental compliance agencies, and the general public by telephone or in person, in one-on-one or group settings.
  • Regularly uses a telephone, computer (e-mail) and fax for communication.
  • Required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time during the course of work shift.
  • Routinely required to stoop, bend, kneel, lift, and reach, pull, push, and tilt object in the performance of job function.
  • Requires the essential use of hands, speech, eyesight, and hearing.
  • Requires agility to operate multiple telephone lines with the use of hands and head-set.
  • Lifting limitations for this position: 25-50 lbs. May have to manipulate heavier containers.
  • Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral and depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus as needed.
  • Requires incumbent to sit and operate computer for extended periods of time during course of work day, and the ability to proficiently use the computer key-board for typing.
  • Noise level for this work environment is typically low to moderate. Some work areas require hearing protection for an 8-hour work day.
  • Periods of odoriferous environment.
  • Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Personal Protective Equipment provided as necessary.
  • Work environment may involve exposure to chemicals, solutions, detergents, or solvents that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Work environment may involve exposure to allergens such as Soy, Wheat, Fish, Shell Fish, Milk, Egg, Tree nuts, and Sesame.
