Berry Inc is Hiring a Senior Drilling Engineer Near Bakersfield, CA

Berry Corporation has an opening for a Senior Drilling Engineer that leads the drilling engineering team responsible for various functions of the company’s active multi-well drilling program in California and Utah. The position provides engineering and operational recommendations to the multi-disciplined well-planning team under limited supervision and guidance from management. Key Accountabilities

  • Reviews and develops design and procedures for drilling proposed new wells, including directional planning, casing selection, drilling mud, drill bit, and cement design.
  • Formulates budget and execution-ready drilling cost estimates.
  • Participates in all phases of the drilling operations, assisting the drilling superintendent and drill site manager as needed to address and resolve operational problems, ensuring accuracy and completion according to the drill program, costs, and timing.
  • Tracks costs and monthly accrual processes.
  • Resolves issues with drilling vendors in conjunction with Supply Chain.
  • Engages in well-risk analysis with the asset team and provides operation support to the field and regulatory group to meet requirements.
  • Post-analysis of drilling processes for benchmarking and learning to improve the process for future well drills.
  • Leads in the recommendation of drilling equipment and planning to ensure that appropriate rig equipment is selected.
  • Mentors and trains less experienced engineers on technical matters.
  • Provides recommendations to management and technical staff on well drilling design and procedures.
  • Complies with all the Company’s Safety and Environmental policies, practices, and programs. Takes corrective action within training limitations. Escalates as necessary.
  • Participates in and adheres to all training programs designed to enhance HSE knowledge, safety standards, and improve job performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Certificates, Licenses

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Active membership in engineering association(s).

Experience

  • 10 years of relevant experience in oil and gas exploration, drilling, and production.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Critical:

  • Communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Project management, planning, and organization skills.
  • Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.

Required:

  • Advanced working knowledge of drilling operations, drilling mechanics, directional drilling, drilling fluids, cementing, well control, and formation evaluation.
  • Working knowledge of State regulatory agencies' requirements.
  • Experience in Peloton WellView® drilling data management software.
  • Experience in Landmark Solutions drilling design software such as Compass®, StressCheck®, and WellPlan®
  • Ability to lead others to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Regional experience in several oil and gas producing basins, including exposure to multiple state regulatory schemes.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams.

Desired:

  • Experience managing budgets and cost estimates for drilling programs.
  • Experience working with drilling vendors and resolving wellsite issues collaboratively.

Work Environment

  • Primarily office work environment.
  • Routine work involves common office activities during a typical 9-hour day such as standing, sitting, walking, typing, and twisting as necessary.
  • May be required to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must follow all company safety policies, including when visiting field locations.

Compensation and Benefits

The pay range for this position in California is between $160,680 and $220,935 annually based on a full-time schedule. Please note that the annual salary information is a general guideline, and that annual salary will vary depending on your location and that Berry Corporation (“Berry”) will consider factors such as (but not limited to) scope of responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considers when extending an offer. This position is eligible for short-term cash incentive bonus and long-term incentive awarded in restricted share units, excellent benefits including full health benefits, 401(k) with company match and immediate vesting, tuition reimbursement, 9/80 flex schedules, and generous paid time off.
