Responsibilities

The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technicians primary function is to support all assigned asset area maintenance activities. This position requires continued “on the tools” responsibilities on an as needed basis. On a regular scheduled basis, the Lead Facilities Maintenance Technicians meets with the planner, area engineer, and Operations to review open work orders, current equipment issues and help set priorities. The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician then works with the Shift Mechanics based on those priorities, assists in obtaining needed parts, offers technical guidance to technicians to ensure jobs are completed correctly, and in a timely manner. The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technicians is the primary contact for reliability issues and corrective actions requested by operations. Other tasks as assigned by management.

Safety:

  • Performs all tasks in a safe manner, wearing required PPE and following all safety regulations.
  • BBS participation.
  • Know and understand all Safety rules and guidelines to ensure work is performed safely.
  • Have a clear understanding of and strictly comply with LOTO policy.

Responsibilities:

  • The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician will address any outages seen and will ensure, with the Maintenance Manager, that outages are worked until compliance.
  • Work with Operations to address equipment issues an as needed basis. Support the dispatching of daily jobs with operations, planners and engineers.
  • Compile daily activities as needed for each shift.
  • Contact and schedule outside resources and contractors to support daily workload.
  • Contact additional resources when needed.
  • Be a primary trainer in the Department for PM’s, PdM, and utilizing reliability technology.
  • Attend Asset Meetings, Shift Takeover Meetings.
  • People:

  • The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician will work with planning schedule overtime and vacation coverage based on the roster in their work area. They will look ahead and work with planning and the Reliability Engineer to ensure that their team is adequately staffed from a skill standpoint and take the appropriate measures. They will work with the Maintenance Manager to get the right personnel in the right area in order to run the operation in the most successful manner for that shift.
  • The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician will help to resolve conflicts among team members and will refer issues to higher authority when needed.
  • The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician will assist the Maintenance Manager in understanding training and development needs for associates as well as help execute the development of individuals.
  • Communication:

  • The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician will serve as a conduit for 2-way communication for feedback between operators and maintenance resources in order to work in a collaborative manner.
  • The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician will coordinate with operations ensuring any down time is utilized effectively. They will also communicate with Planners any exceptions to the operations schedule so that appropriate adjustments can be made to the maintenance schedule.
  • The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for communication and direction to technicians in the morning meetings. This includes opening the meeting with safety topics and discussion and directing emergency work that is outside of the plan.

  • The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician will attend downtime meetings, schedule meetings, safety meetings, asset meetings, safety reviews for their work area, and down day planning meetings.
  • The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the accurate completion of all paperwork including but not limited to work orders, KPI’s, incident reports and the distribution technical data.
  • The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician will coordinate and assist technicians with trouble-shooting activities. The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician will refer to the Reliability Engineer for root-cause solutions to recurring problems. They will follow the resource allocation procedure when problems are occurring.
  • The Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician will be responsible for fulfilling the tasks as outlined in the daily task lists.
  • Physical demands:

  • Ability to stand and walk 12 hours or more a day on concrete, solid metal or corrugated metal surfaces to perform production duties.
  • Ability to sit while driving and operating material handling equipment 1- 3 hours per shift.
  • Ability to sit while entering data into computers, reviewing data, completing reports, etc.
  • Ability to push a wheeled cart filled with scrap, weighing up to 400 lbs., through manufacturing area.
  • Employee must be able to climb, bend, stoop and crawl.
  • Employee must be able to lift up to 75 pounds repeatedly.
  • Required to frequently ascend and descend up to three flights of stairs over extremely fast moving machinery.
  • Required to safely access fast moving machinery which includes rolls with inward nip points.
  • Work Environment:

  • Area may or may not be air conditioned or heated, and may be humid and hot or cold depending on seasonal conditions.
  • Exposure to hot and/or abrasive surfaces.
  • Required to be in tight spaces on occasion and to heights daily.
  • Possible exposure to noise levels over 90 decibels for 12 hours at certain locations.
  • Moving machinery or moving objects on production floor.
  • Floor surfaces slippery at times.
  • Exposure to chemicals which may cause eye or skin irritation and/or burns, and irritation to respiratory system.
  • Exposure to static electricity on occasion.
  • Exposure to and use of sharp implements at times.
  • Exposure to outside elements on occasion.

    Education: 

    • High School Diplomia or GED equilvant, required. Associate's Degree in Maintenance related field, equivalent work experience, preferred.
    • Six Sigma Certification (Black or Green) and TPM- Preferred, but not required.
    • 5 years of manufacturing experience.
