Primary Purpose

The Project Manager / Mechanical Engineer PE (PM/PE) is responsible for the entire life cycle of a project from inception to closure. Ensures the project is delivered efficiently and effectively in accordance with the project scope, schedule, deliverables, risks, and expectations to deliver a successful project and exceed the Client’s expectations. In addition, applies standard engineering techniques to design, analyze, maintain, or improve product components or assemblies.

Essential Duties

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Participate in business development activities through responses to the Request For Qualifications (RFQ), Request For Proposal (RFP), and participation in project interview presentations.
  • Work with the Client (internal or external) to define the project scope, schedule, deliverables, risks, and expectations to deliver a successful project.
  • Develop a proposal to document the project scope, schedule, deliverables, measures of success, and associated fees.
  • Develop an internal Work Plan to define revenue and budgets for the following: hours, internal cost, travel, and sub-consultants. Also, estimate reimbursable amounts.
  • Ensure the revenue and budget estimates are entered into the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to accurately reflect the execution of the project.
  • Work with Leadership to ensure the project is correctly resourced per the established budgets and schedule.
  • Schedule the project tasks and resources to ensure the agreed-upon schedule is met within the budget constraints established.
  • Establish a project Kick-Off meeting and ensure all team members and Clients are effectively communicated with throughout the project.
  • Manage team members and sub-consultants to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Continuously track and report project execution against budget in terms of schedule adherence, deliverables, cost, and revenue.
  • Where appropriate, technically direct/execute aspects of the project.
  • Manage/exceed the client’s expectations.
  • Ensure the project is closed out and all commercial aspects are completed.
  • Participate in relevant organizations for networking and professional development.
  • Responsible for signing and sealing engineering documents when necessary (EoR).
  • Analyzes, develops, and evaluates systems.
  • Improves and maintains current systems or creates brand new projects.
  • Designs and drafts blueprints (When required), visits systems in the field and manages projects.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to younger engineers and designers.
  • Applies engineering techniques and analyses within the scope of the assignment.
  • Any other duties as assigned by Company Leadership.

This position is Full-Time, Exempt, and reports to the Engineering Director.

Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Mechanical Engineering and Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • 5-6 years of experience in mechanical engineering design.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience leading and managing a team of technical staff. 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and planning skills. 
  • Critical thinking & problem-solving skills.
  • Detailed oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a face-paced environment.
  • Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Project Management Institute (PMI) Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) qualification.
  • Successful completion of the Bernhard Project Management training for internal candidates.

 Travel Requirements

  • Infrequent travel to Company or Client locations. Depending on project need and location, estimated to be around 5%-25% of the regular work schedule.

Physical/Work Environment Requirements

  • Long periods of sitting or standing at a desk in front of a computer in the office environment, which is usually quiet.
  • Ability to walk, climb, and crawl on a project construction site on occasion.
  • Exposed to inclement weather.
