The ideal candidate will be strategic minded, be a team player that can also work independently with a positive attitude, be proactive, manage complex tasks and problem solve, and possess a high attention to detail. The Purchasing Manager must have the ability to collaborate with peers and management and demonstrate exceptional judgement and a high degree of professional maturity while modeling loyalty, integrity, and honesty.
Qualifications Of Candidate
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • APICS CPIM certification, or willingness to begin course work.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; extensive experience with ERP/MRP software.
  • 4 years’ purchasing management and manufacturing environment experience.
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with international importing, overseas suppliers, customs brokers, and forwarders.
  • Demonstration of accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, SOP’s and work instructions.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference; apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Job Description
  • Manage procurement activities through appropriate personnel, from intent to purchase through delivery of commodity.
  • Prepare instructions regarding purchasing systems and procedures.
  • Analyze market and delivery conditions to determine present and future material availability and prepare market analysis reports.
  • Maintain a system to evaluate vendor quotations that utilize appropriate negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery, and service for materials, supplies and services from suppliers and subcontractors, domestic and international.
  • Recruit and maintain suppliers that provide high quality products and services at a competitive price while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct.
  • Assist in the maintenance of up-to-date specifications for all purchased items.
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders and purchase agreements as needed.
  • Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to Company policy.
  • Review contracts, bids, proposals, and vendor agreements for correctness, price, and acceptability of items to specifications.
  • Assist as needed with affiliate location procurement activities.
  • Maintain ongoing cost saving measures with a tracking system for continuous improvement.
  • Assist with plant utilization through improved planning/scheduling processes.
  • Determine purchase/subcontract size and stock levels with the use of M3 scheduling tools.
  • Locate new sources of supply as necessary, keeping abreast of changing materials and market conditions, and advise top management of current trends in prices, availability of materials, etc.
  • Ensure proper purchasing contact with Customer Service, Sales, Warehouse, and Manufacturing related to releases and deliveries.
  • Maintain reporting systems that relate to the materials function (Materials Price Variance, EOQ).
  • Perform regular supplier performance evaluations to maintain compliance with the requirements of ISO and other regulatory bodies.
  • Keep informed on legal matters that affect purchasing policies.
  • Responsible for continuing programs for exploration for new materials, suppliers, and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, price, continuity and delivery.
  • Perform ISO tasks including training necessary for Company certification maintenance.
  • Directly supervise up to four employees within the Purchasing department; carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws; interview, hire and train employees for the department; plan, assign and direct work; conduct annual performance reviews and provide frequent feedback via coaching and mentoring; address complaints and team performance issues in a timely manner and work to resolve problems.
Job Expectations
  • The Employee is expected to dedicate the time necessary to accomplish the given job requirements.
  • On average employment will require 40 hours per week at Berkshire facilities.
  • The Employee will dedicate personal time to furthering their education as it relates to work at Berkshire. This includes time spent reading relevant trade publications, journals, and textbooks.
  • Travel (domestic/international) will occasionally be required.

Physical Requirements
