Responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity for an Underwriting Assistant to join our team! At Berkley Equine & Cattle, we offer various equine and cattle insurance products. You will be responsible for submission management, processing and delivering of quotes and binders to the producers within specific underwriting guidelines. You will also handle technical analysis of specific underwriting data to assist Underwriters in the underwriting process.

What you'll do:

  • Review and analyze new business, renewals, endorsement submissions, applications and veterinary health documents received from brokers using the automated facilities of the Company Portal and other system supported tools, as directed
  • Obtain and review pertinent information needed to evaluate new business and renewals as requested, according to prescribed criteria and authority; take necessary action when requesting additional information needed to price, process and produce business; determine the need for additional justification of limits and any additional health information needed; follow up with appropriate internal and external customers
  • Maintain quality and time standards as established
  • Provide timely, courteous and efficient service to all internal and external customers
  • Communicate in a timely and positive manner; written and oral communication should be clear, concise and well organized
  • Document files with the appropriate underwriting/rating information to assure activity, analysis and risk evaluation is clear, concise and completed, as directed
  • Return calls and emails promptly
  • Keep current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends; collaborate with other departments to support program(s) (i.e. regulatory, underwriting compliance, claims, actuarial)
  • Perform other duties and backup to other Assistants and Underwriters as necessary

Qualifications

What we're looking for:

  • Minimum High School Graduate, Associate or Bachelor Degree
  • 3 years’ experience within the equine industry 
  • Previous experience as equine adjuster, agency CSR, veterinary clinic and advance knowledge of horses is a plus
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making abilities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, demonstrate planning and organizational skills
  • Computer skills including Power Point, Adobe and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
