Responsibilities

We have an opportunity for an entry level position as an Underwriting Analyst to join our Berkley Re America team! You will be joining an industry leading commercial-lines property and casualty insurance group, with a best-in-class track record for delivering risk adjusted returns to shareholders for over 55 years.

You will participate in a variety of learning experiences working closely with our Senior VP Account Executives to provide technical support for our Treaty and Facultative Reinsurance underwriting and marketing functions. Under their supervision, you will gain a broad understanding of the insurance industry, develop fundamental insurance product knowledge, build core underwriting skills, build relationships with brokers and exercise your critical thinking and analytical skills. You will receive on-the-job training in the fundamentals of insurance and reinsurance and get an opportunity to learn from colleagues in other Berkley operating units and you will be expected to work toward your CPCU professional designation.

This position will be based in our Stamford, CT office.

Key functions include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the analysis of reinsurance opportunities and processing of qualitative and quantitative data in support underwriting and marketing functions
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and analytics for underwriting and management review
  • Build and manage relationships with key brokers and clients
  • Execute special projects in pursuit of enhanced operational excellence
  • Network with key producers and clients and get hands-on experience in reinsurance deal-making and negotiation.
  • Participate in analyst training program with W.R. Berkley colleagues across the U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Recent college grads welcome to apply
  • An interest to build the foundation to support a longstanding career in the insurance industry
  • An interest to start a career in the insurance/reinsurance industry
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong critical reasoning, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain long-term professional relationships with brokers
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to manage various concurrent projects and tasks to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and thrive in a team environment
