This role will be based in our Urbandale, IA office; we offer a hybrid work schedule with 4 days in the office; and 1 day remote where it makes sense to do so.

Responsibilities

The Claims Technical Specialist is responsible for researching, analyzing and developing technical claims guidance and training related to compliance with federal and state regulations, coverage matters and Claims Best Practices.

We'll count on you to:

  • Research, analyze and develop technical claims guidance based on legislative/regulatory updates in coordination with in-house legal counsel. Ensures the technical guidance related to legal statues, regulation and/or other requirements impacting claim practices and processes is communicated and implemented.
  • Develop and implement claim handling policies and best practices. 
  • Collaborate with in-house and outside counsel to develop, maintain and update technical guidance materials to ensure adjusters handling of claims remains in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Coordinate with Claims Directors to track and ensure proper adjuster licenses are acquired, tracked and maintained for adjusters as required in each jurisdiction that claims are handled.
  • Review and update form letters and releases to ensure they are in compliance with state requirements and are properly worded and formatted.
  • Develop and deliver in partnership with in-house and outside counsel, claims adjuster training and claims training materials related to compliance and coverage matters.
  • Handles Medicare compliance related issues and reporting. 
  • Serve as liaison with in-house counsel on Departments of Insurance (DOI) matters to ensure timely reporting for compliance with governmental and regulatory agencies. 
  • Develop and implement Claims onboarding process for new hires; collaborate with leaders to create new hire onboarding training schedule and identify needed resources.
  • Participate in business projects to achieve desired business objectives. Assist in coordinating and prioritizing various aspects of the project, including planning, communication, execution and completion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree; 10 years of insurance or coverage related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in multiple lines of business such as Property, General Liability, Auto, Workers Compensation is preferred. 
  • Ability to perform legal research and provide information in easily understandable format. 
  • Strong understanding of coverage forms.
  • Ability to assess training needs and objectives; teaching and facilitation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills to work with internal and external business partners, including strong presentation skills. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. 
  • Completion of or working toward AINS, AIC, CPCU or similar designation. Claims Adjusting licenses preferred but not required.
