Reports To: Associate Director of Development

Classification: Annual full-time, exempt; benefits eligible after 90 days’

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday. Occasional evenings and weekends required.

Compensation: $70,000 – 72,000; DOE

Berkeley Repertory Theatre has grown from a storefront stage to an international leader in innovative theatre. Over 6 million people have enjoyed more than 500 shows at Berkeley Rep, including 85 world premieres. Berkeley Rep shows have gone on to win 8 Tony Awards, 9 Obie Awards, 11 Drama Desk Awards, 1 Grammy Award, 1 Pulitzer Prize, and many other honors. In recognition of its place on the national stage, Berkeley Rep received the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre in 1997. Through its annual seven-play season, together with up to four special event presentations, Berkeley Rep invites audiences to enjoy an eclectic range of theatrical experiences featuring diverse artistic voices, themes, and perspectives.

Berkeley Rep is looking for a motivated, organized, and enthusiastic annual fund manager. Under the supervision of the associate director of development, the annual fund manager oversees all of Berkeley Rep’s Individual Annual Fund fundraising campaigns (gifts under $5,000), including all aspects of donor solicitation, recognition, engagement, and communication.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Annual Fund campaign management and strategy:

  • Manage Berkeley Rep’s individual Annual Fund giving campaigns (gifts under $5,000), including integrated direct mail, email, and donation with subscription/tickets appeals.
  • Work with the director of development and associate director of development to develop Annual Fund fundraising strategies to increase donor acquisition and retention, deepen donor engagement, and significantly expand Berkeley Rep’s base of individual donor support.
  • Develop and implement an annual, data-driven cultivation and communications plan for Annual Fund donors that embraces storytelling.
  • Write compelling copy for Annual Fund collateral, solicitation letters, email appeals, acknowledgement letters, and digital content (email, web, social media).
  • Coordinate the production of Annual Fund printed and digital assets for mail and online appeals and communications, working with internal graphics team and outside vendors.
  • Use a data-driven approach to identify target lead groups for appeals.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including but not limited to marketing, front of house, box office, and artistic to ensure a patron-centered and integrated approach to patron communications, solicitations, and other interactions.
  • Stay apprised of direct response fundraising strategy trends and best practices, including technology solutions, to continue to streamline processes and grow revenue.
  • Ensure individual donor benefits fulfillment, including accurate recognition.
  • Increase touchpoints and engagement opportunities for Annual Fund donors, particularly $500-2,499 donors.

Data tracking and reporting:

  • Work with the development operations coordinator to provide ongoing reporting on individual fundraising campaigns.
  • Analyze giving and patron data to make data-informed decisions and develop strategy for increasing giving and donor engagement.

Supervisory duties:

  • Supervise the development operations coordinator, providing training, mentorship, performance evaluation and feedback, and career development opportunities.
  • Oversee accurate gift entry by the development operations coordinator and development fellow.

Other:

  • Actively participate in workshops and trainings, including harassment prevention, bystander intervention, anti-bias, and other antiracism, equity, diversity, inclusion, and access initiatives.
  • Research major donor prospects.
  • Assist with department projects and events as needed; some evenings and weekends are required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Two years non-profit fundraising experience or equivalent experience in for-profit membership or communications.
  • Interest in and commitment to antiracism, equity, diversity, access, and inclusion work.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with a high level of emotional intelligence and cultural competency.
  • Experience using customer relationship management databases; Tessitura experience a plus.
  • Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions.
  • High-level of attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Handle confidential information with sensitivity and demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
