Berea College is Hiring an Assistant Athletic Trainer (SAL 6) Near Berea, KY

Summary:This is a 10-month, salaried position. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will collaborate with the Head Athletic Trainer to provide quality healthcare to the student-athletes competing on any of the intercollegiate athletic teams sponsored by Berea College.
Minimum Qualifications Required:Education required to ensure success in this position:
  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE-accredited professional program;
  • If Bachelor's degree is in Athletic Training, an additional Master's degree is preferred.
Experience required to ensure success in this position:
  • Minimum of one year relevant athletic training experience, preferably in a collegiate athletic setting;
  • Experience with teaching and/or supervision of students preferred.
Special skills, knowledge and abilities:
  • Ability to meet multiple demands in a positive manner;
  • Ability to work independently but also as a positive member of a team;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment;
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with individuals of varying cultures and backgrounds;
  • Ability to meet time commitments and the physical demand required of an athletic trainer in a collegiate setting;
  • Understanding and agreement with the mission and Great Commitments of Berea College;
  • Strong work ethic, passion for the profession and commitment to student-athletes;
  • Familiarity with the NCAA Division III philosophy preferred;
  • Experience with the ATS system preferred.
License, certification, or registration necessary:
  • Must be recognized by the Board of Certification as a Certified Athletic Trainer (BOC);
  • Current licensure, or eligible for licensure, as an athletic trainer in the state of Kentucky;
  • CPR/AED/First Aid (professional rescuer or health care provider level);
  • Driver’s license;
  • Berea College Golf Cart Certification
  • National Provider Identification Number (NPI)
  • For any certifications or licenses not possessed upon hire, certifications or licenses must be promptly attained and regularly maintained.
Physical requirements:
  • Some heavy lifting;
  • Ability to move freely throughout a four-floor, 106,996 square foot athletic and recreation facility, as well as all outdoor athletic facilities.
  • It is expected that the individual in this position will work at times other than, or in addition to, normal business hours and days, including attendance at numerous evening and weekend events. This is especially true from August to May.
Environmental conditions:
  • Indoor and outdoor.
Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:
  • Standard computer hardware and software applications;
  • Be able to drive a 12-passenger van and golf carts.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Regular and predictable attendance is essential. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Assist with the daily operations of the athletic training clinic including, but not limited to: first aid and emergency care, injury evaluations (assessment and diagnosis of athletic injuries and illnesses), injury management, and injury counseling, treatment and rehabilitation;
  • Assist with the scheduling, organization and completion of student-athlete pre-participation physical examinations, educational programs and assist with administering all NCAA and Berea College-mandated medical paperwork;
  • Provide coverage for practices and home competitions as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer;
  • Provide timely medical referrals when appropriate and assist with scheduling and transporting student-athletes to medical appointments;
  • Assist with insurance billing claims and procedures;
  • Travel with assigned teams as necessary or required;
  • Maintain up-to-date medical records and documentation;
  • Assist in monitoring inventory and assist with the athletic training budget;
  • Conduct routine checks of athletic training equipment to ensure functionality and assist with general maintenance and upkeep of athletic training spaces;
  • Assist with the hiring, training and evaluations for the student training assistants and serve as a labor supervisor within the Berea College Labor Program;
  • Serve as a CAATE Accredited Clinical Preceptor;
  • Develop and deliver the NCAA’s 360 Proof educational programming to student-athletes and departmental staff;
  • Maintain working relationships and open communication between student-athletes, athletic training and College staff, coaches and other health care professionals, including the contracted team physician(s) and visiting teams;
  • Continue professional development and maintain continuing education units required by the Board of Certification;
  • Support the institution’s mission and purposes;
  • Related duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer or Director of Athletics.
