Team Leader Job Description

Title : Team Leader for Child Enrichment Services, Adventure Club

Qualifications : 21 years or older with a high school diploma or GED and Out of School Time Credential or higher

Reports To : Program Coordinator

Supervises : Site Supervisors and field staff at assigned schools

Location : Child Enrichment Services Office and BS Elementary / Middle Schools

Date Reviewed : 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021,2024

Job Goals : Responsible for assisting the AC Program Coordinator with the supervision of the Adventure Club program. This includes day to day operations, staff management and ensuring that all sites maintain quality endorsement / accreditation.

Also, mentors and works with staff at assigned schools to provide general direction and support to the program, staff, students and activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performance Value :

Interactions with Staff and Youth

Works alongside new and current staff to train and role model program expectations to improve job performance.

Monitors staff to ensure they use routines to build relationships and learning opportunities.

Shows respect for staff and youth and encourages respectful interactions.

Models for staff the use of indirect and direct behavior guidance techniques including Conscious Discipline strategies.

Supports youth as they learn to resolve their own conflicts and provides staff training on conflict resolution techniques.

Strives to meet each staff and youth’s individual needs and listens to their ideas, questions or concerns.

Ensures staff have a system in place for knowing counts at all times.

Ensures youth accommodations are implemented and monitored for success.

Oversees that staff maintain a clean, organized, inviting environment that is safe and developmentally appropriate.

Activities and Environment

Provides support to staff and reviews weekly lesson plans to ensure a variety of age appropriate, engaging learning experiences.

Plans for summer program, school breaks, schedules, special speakers, and other resources to enrich the program.

Provides adequate feedback to the director, program coordinator and site staff.

Has the ability to identify problems and assist in correction.

Monitors shared space to assist in keeping it neat and organized. Organizes work efficiently and maintains an organized and tidy work environment.

Reviews children’s portfolios regularly to ensure they are updated.

Oversees staff for successful implementation of Program Quality Assessment standards, Better Beginnings requirements, Food Program procedures, and Minimum Licensing requirements.

Has working knowledge of program and district policies and practices.

Submits monthly program newsletters and / or other required paperwork to the AC Program Coordinator in a timely manner.

Lifts 10-30 pounds regularly, up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Meets program attendance requirements. Team Leaders are at a minimum of one of their assigned sites daily.

Submits time off and clocks in / out at assigned time in Frontline. Is punctual.

Maintains and monitors staff for professional appearance following the program dress code.

Open to new ideas and take initiative. Possesses enthusiasm for the position.

Accepts responsibility for all job-related tasks, including documentation and record keeping.

Meets and monitors staff for program expectations regarding job performance as outlined in the personnel handbook.

Meets and monitors staff for professional development expectations as outlined in the personnel handbook.

Maintains a flexible work schedule and attends all staff meetings to train staff and build a team environment.

Monitors sites to ensure proper procedures are followed in an emergency and report to appropriate supervisors / agencies.

Keeps program coordinator apprised of individual youth’s, staff’s and site’s status.

Accepts all assignments given by supervisors.

Monitors licensing, AC program policy implementation and assists staff in the application of any program requirements leading to quality accreditation.

Completes yearly self-evaluation and provides input for staff performance evaluations following district and / or program process.

Uses good judgment and keeps information confidential.

Follows the chain of command with issues or concerns.

Has knowledge and ability to proficiently use technology required for position to include the ability to develop spreadsheets and input data as needed.

Supports and follows all administrative and district decisions and all personnel policies and procedures as outlined in the personnel handbook.

Keeps the main office and supervisor informed of whereabouts when not in the office.

Is knowledgeable of all financial guidelines and is fiscally responsible to operate program within the budget.

Ensures staff schedules are organized and the substitute process is implemented appropriately. Ensures sites are staffed to meet daily ratios.

Maintains all areas of professionalism (dress, demeanor, speech, confidentiality) with supervisors, staff, co-workers, other district staff and the community.

Mandated reporter under the Arkansas Child Maltreatment Reporting Act.

Interpersonal Skills

Works to build positive relationships with supervisors, families, co-workers, children, school personnel and others. Avoids showing favoritism.

Communicates effectively with a positive, professional attitude (e.g. non-judgmental, objective, reflective, empathetic, tactful, patient) with supervisors, families, co-workers and others daily; avoids gossip.

Communicates with parents regarding discipline issues, ideas, questions or concerns.

Plans and conducts formal meetings with staff, parents and school personnel.

Works as part of a team with concern for the entire AC program and Child Enrichment Services.

Assists sites in planning family engagement activities to strengthen families.

Maintains ongoing effective communications with site supervisors and emails Week at a Glance reminders to be used for weekly site meetings.

Additional qualifications include enjoyment of youth, good mental and physical health, respect for diverse cultural backgrounds, willingness to complete training requirements, and willingness to undergo regulatory checks required by law.
