Position Summary:

The Equipment Operator performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the operation of light, medium and some heavy equipment and light to heavy-duty trucks.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate all heavy equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Safely operate or tend equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors, combines, and irrigation equipment.
  • Safely operate towed machines such as seed drills or manure spreaders to plant, fertilize, dust, and spray crops.
  • Irrigate soil, use and maintain portable pipes and pumps or ditch systems.
  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks, to include routine maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Perform required manual labor in construction and maintenance projects. Monitor and maintain proper service of assigned equipment.
  • May assist in loading and unloading of trucks, laying of pipe, using air tools and jackhammers, and other hand tools related to job.
  • Perform all aspects of asphalt lay down, including but not limited to, operation of lay-down machine, rollers, and distributor tank.
  • Maintain knowledge of safety procedures and hazards related to construction, maintenance and equipment operation.
  • Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required.
  • Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored.
  • Maintain roads and transportation systems in order to ensure safe roadways within company grounds.
  • May build level and excavate land surfaces using graders and other construction equipment.
  • Gather and load dirt and waste products from job sites onto trucks. Transport to appropriate location.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records and enter data in computer.
  • Assist with disassembling and reassembling screeners/conveyors.
  • Attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools.
  • Safely operate trucks to haul crops, supplies, tools, or farm workers.
  • Load and unload crops or containers of materials, manually or using conveyors, hand trucks, forklifts, or transfer augers.
  • Load hoppers, containers, or conveyors to feed machines with products, using forklifts, transfer augers, suction gates, shovels, or pitchforks.
  • Manipulate controls to set, activate and adjust mechanisms on machinery.
  • Use company-provided systems to enter, track, and document work; run reports as required.
  • Support management with administrative work and projects as required and/or directed; support other departments with administrative tasks and other projects as assigned.
  • Communicate by telephone or in person with contractors, vendors and other service providers as may be requested by members of the senior or executive management team.
  • Support the production of monthly, quarterly, annual and other reports, as needed.
  • Participate in safety and emergency response plan maintenance, development and training activities.
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of and adhere to organizational policies, regulations and procedures.
  • Keep supervisor well informed of activities, results of efforts, and problems/potential problems identified; recommend corrective action to supervisor.
  • Respect confidentiality in discussing visitors, clients, tenants, staff and organizational matters.
  • Report to work as scheduled and on time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Special Licenses and/or Certificates:

  • 10 Hour OSHA Card
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to meet company’s insurance requirements

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of personal computers and peripherals, word processing and spreadsheet software, e-mail and the Internet.

  • Maintain the confidence of co-workers, company management, vendors, clients and contractors by keeping appropriate information confidential, as defined in the Company Handbook and in any signed Confidentiality Agreements.
  • Read and comprehend complex instructions, detailed correspondences and memos.

  • Carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions.

  • Perform professionally under stress when confronted with an emergency, critical, unusual, or possible dangerous situation. Must be able to sustain attention during situations in which working with speed is a critical aspect of the job. May be subject to danger, risk or tension as a regular and/or consistent part of the job.

  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is exposed to both indoor and outdoor conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, occasionally exposed to vibration.
  • This position is designated as safety-sensitive because the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, occasionally exposed to vibration. The position also requires this work to be performed in close proximity to other employees, and a failure to observe safe working practices can have an immediate impact on the employee’s own safety and the safety of their fellow co-workers
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:

  • Perform repetitive work, to continuously perform the same work according to set procedures, sequence or pace.
  • Employee will be subject to substantial repetitive motions of the body or its parts.
  • Exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, up to 15 pounds of force frequently, and up to 7 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • View computer screen for long periods of time.
