Pension Coordinator Level I (San Diego, CA)
Summary – Third Party Administrator is seeking a Pension Coordinator. Experience in the administration of retirement plans, including defined benefit and defined contribution plans, is a must. Calculates retirement benefit estimates, processes applications, communicates with members, reports to Board of Trustees, balances monthly ledger, and processes pension checks. Performs customer service functions. Spanish as a second language is a plus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to
  • Calculate and perform pension benefit calculations
  • Analyze and communicate resolutions to participant inquiries via phone or written correspondence
  • Produce and review standard reports, assist with reports, maintain records/files and account reconciliation
  • Review incoming forms for completion and accuracy; take appropriate corrective action
  • Provide additional support on special projects and other escalated tasks as needed
  • Set priorities and activities with direction while seeking to understand reasons for change
  • Develop an understanding of our customers, their needs, and how individual work contributes to overall success
  • Work with guidance to respond to the needs of customer promptly
  • Set up files for new applications
  • Data entry of new application information
  • Determine eligibility for and calculates monthly benefits of members
  • Communicate with members through writing & phone calls.
  • Prepare meeting reports for the Board of Trustees
  • Process pension checks, including the stuffing of envelopes, posting, and printing manual checks
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this job
Pension Coordinator Levels
Level I No pension experience necessary, but must possess solid analytical skills and intermediate math skills, have customer service experience, be organized and detail-oriented, and possess good written and verbal communication skills.
Level II Must be proficient in Level I skills and have two (2) years pension experience, general ERISA and other federal regulation knowledge, knowledge of BeneSys programs and reports, intermediate knowledge of plan documents, and be comfortable with some independent decision making.
Level III Must be proficient in Level I and II skills and have a complete understanding of all California Plans. Three (3) plus years extensive pension experience, advanced independent decision making skills, extensive ERISA and federal regulation knowledge, advanced knowledge of plan documents and ability to interpret all Plans. Ability to analyze new plans for conversion and train new staff.
Unit Leader Must be proficient in Levels I, II, and III skills. Must display strong leadership skills. Must effectively plan and prioritize the productivity of the staff. Must assist in the conversion of new plans. Must be able to troubleshoot issues. Assist Supervisor and Manager with special projects. Must be able to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with Plan Professionals.

  • Have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (verbal/written)
  • Have proven problem solving ability
  • Have good multitasking, organizational, and time management skills
  • Be proficient in Excel and Word
Education and/or Experience - High School diploma or GED and some college and/or job related experience.
Language Skills - Ability to read documents and communicate professionally and clearly.
Mathematical Skills - Ability to apply concepts of basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Must be able to understand and apply knowledge of decimals, fractions, and percentages.
Reasoning Skills - Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions.
Physical Demands – Sustained periods of sitting, standing and keyboarding. Occasional lifting and carrying of boxes, typically “banker-box” size. Must be able to operate basic office equipment such as a scanner, adding machine, postage meter and copier.
Work Environment – This position is in a typical office environment. This is an in-office position, and the ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance in the office is an essential function of this position.
Work Schedule - Full time. Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm. Required in office (no at-home days).

Pay
The current pay for this position is $33.40 per hour. The pay rate for this position is dependent on location, skills, experience, education and other business factors.
