Benesch is proud to announce the opening for an IT Infrastructure Engineer in our Cleveland office. This position is hybrid and has work from home flexibility.

Position Summary:

The IT Infrastructure Engineer assists in the maintenance and administration of the Firm's computer network and provides Tier III support for Firm applications. They work closely with the Core Infrastructure Services Manager and infrastructure group to plan and implement firmwide local and wide area networks, best practices in security, and reliability of systems. The IT Infrastructure Engineer assists with the coordination, installation, testing, and technical tasks in support of the local and wide area wired and wireless network systems and participates in implementing network security procedures.

Essential Functions:

  1. Develops, plans, implements, procures, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains the Firm's IT infrastructure systems.
  2. Analyzes and recommends resources to meet the Firm's technological needs.
  3. Handles racking design and organization, cable management, power distribution, redundancy, and growth planning in the physical datacenters.
  4. Work with Firm staff and contractors to realize IT buildouts at new and existing locations. Designs and procures racking equipment and patching and installs wireless access points and cameras.
  5. Manages, configures, and maintains IT infrastructure hardware, cloud, and software, including but not limited to Active Directory/GPOs, network infrastructure, VMware and HyperV clusters, Microsoft 365, and other infrastructure applications such as Config management, Monitoring, NPS, VPN, RDP, etc.
  6. Configures and maintains physical network and core network services such as SDWAN, DNS, DHCP, BGP/OSPF, VLANs, ACLs. This also includes firewalls, switches, access points, and routers. Performs replacements and firmware upgrades as needed.
  7. Manages endpoint protection, IDS/IPS, and other IT security applications. Investigates and remediates alerts.
  8. Assists in system monitoring, reviewing infrastructure and application logs, and verifying configured technical controls.
  9. Builds, manages, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots network configuration and IP address management systems including all related components and systems.
  10. Tests and assists with deployment of new desktop and server operating systems and applications. Assists with the distribution of updates and patches across systems.
  11. Communicates and manages ISPs, software, hardware, and network vendors/consultants on complex support issues and procurement.
  12. Assists with the enterprise line of business application support. Provides Tier III helpdesk support.
  13. Evaluates, tests, recommends, and implements specific software and network solutions.
  14. Develops and maintains complete and accurate documentation of network layout, server hardware and software configurations, firewall and router configurations.
  15. Researches, installs, analyzes, tests and evaluates applications, systems, policies, methodologies, processes, and procedures to ensure that the Firm's server infrastructure and facilities meet the Firm's expectations and Service Level Agreements for availability, performance, growth, and functionality. Maintains documentation for network processes and procedures.
  16. Travels to all Benesch offices and datacenters for regular maintenance and new buildouts.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The IT Infrastructure Engineer must have 5-7 years' strong experience as a Network/Systems Engineer or related position. Experience in professional services environments is strongly preferred. Strong IT buildout experience required (rack, stack, cabling, LAN/WLAN). Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and strong analytical abilities are required. Must possess an excellent customer service attitude and the ability to work well with clients and other groups. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required, with little advance notice. Travel up to 30% of the time to other locations and data centers may be required. A mentality of excellence, self-management, and improvement as well as automation for maintenance, configuration, and teamwork is integral.

A successful IT Infrastructure Engineer must have prior experience with or knowledge of the following:

  • Physical Datacenter/Office rack buildouts, copper and fiber Ethernet design; redundant network switching, firewalls, and power/cooling
  • Datacenter virtualization utilizing VMWare/Microsoft technologies, underlying network switching and network storage
  • Managing Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory enterprise environments
  • Network design programs including Arista/Cisco/Meraki, Switches and Palo Firewalls, and Meraki Access Points
  • Microsoft 365 and Azure technologies such as Entra, virtual networks and conditional access
  • A solid understanding of hybrid cloud infrastructure and software defined networking
  • VeloCloud SDWAN, VPNs, WAN routing
