Benefis Health System is Hiring a Sleep Technician (Full Time) Near Great Falls, MT

A sleep technician performs comprehensive sleep testing and analysis and associated interventions under the general supervision of a sleep technologist and/or the medical director or designee.

FLSA:

NON-EXEMPT

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collect, analyze and integrate patient information to identify and meet the patient-specific needs

Follow sleep lab procedural protocols related to sleep study (such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration) to ensure collection of appropriate data.

Obtains consent for study and verifies patient information

Ability to explain the procedure and provide age appropriate patient education

Select appropriate equipment and calibrate for testing to determine proper functioning and adjust, if necessary.

Ability to perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.

Perform appropriate physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals and make required adjustments.

Follow "lights out" procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates)

Perform data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identify, correct and document artifact.

Document routine observation, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure and other significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.

Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as positive airway pressure and oxygen administration).

Follow "lights on" procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process

Assist with scoring clinical events (such as respiratory evens, cardiac events, limb movements and arousals) utilizing the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) standards.

Assist with generating accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.

Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to perform portable monitoring and equipment preparation and data download.

Demonstrates adherence to cleaning and disinfection procedures.

Comply with regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.

Perform routine equipment care and maintenance and inventory evaluation.

Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations.

Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict.

Professional Requirements:

Adheres to dress code.

Completes annual educational requirements.

Maintains regulatory requirements.

Wears identification while on duty.

Maintains confidentiality at all times.

Attends department staff meetings as required within the department.

Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.

Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.

Coordinates efforts in meeting regulatory compliance, federal, state and local regulations and standards

Communicates and complies with the Benefis Health System Mission, Vision and Values as well as the focus statement of the department.

Complies with Benefis Health System Organization Policies and Procedures.

Complies with Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines.

Education/Experience Requirements:

Completion of a sleep technology program associate with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited educational facility or 6 months experience as a sleep trainee with documented proficiency in all required competencies or holds a certification Polysomnographic technician (CPSGT) credential required.
