Job Summary:
The Patient Access Registrar I is commonly the first point of contact for our patients, families and visitors at Benefis Health Systems. The Registrar I position is responsible for interviewing patients as part of the accurate and time efficient registration process. Ensures HIPAA standards are adhered to and followed in accordance to the Benefis Health System policy. The Registrar I will ensure compliance with all Federal and State government regulations and that all Benefis procedures are maintained. The Registrar I is expected to take personal responsibility to stay abreast of current policies and procedures, as well as maintains proficiency in all Patient Access technologies, while providing excellent service at all times.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Captures all required data elements including but not limited to: Name, address, Social Security number, Date of Birth, Insurance(s) information, guarantor, etc.
Determines eligibility and benefits utilizing online vendor. Identifies true self pay patients and routes patient account information to third party eligibility vendor when appropriate.
Performs accurate registration with a minimum accuracy score of 90%.
Receives physician orders for Direct Admits and transfers prior to patient arrival. Scans order into patient medical record.
Ensures compliancy with all governmental and payer requirements which includes, but is not limited to: EMTALA, Billing compliance, Medicare Advanced Beneficiary Notification, Important Message from Medicare, and TriCare letter are completed and signed, the MSPQ completion is completed accurately and completely & knowledge and understand all the Payer requirements and what is required for them to be billed.
Obtains necessary signatures and other information on appropriate forms and documents as required.
Participates in collection of, and meets monthly Point of Service Cash goals as assigned by Benefis Health System. This includes, but is not limited to daily collection tracking and logging.
Develops positive customer relationships by anticipating and providing solutions to the needs of internal and external customer populations and by giving a high priority to customer satisfaction.
Performs other job related duties including, but not limited to registrations in multiple systems, coverage of ancillary departments, as well as other duties assigned by the Manager or Supervisor
The Registrar I attends mandatory monthly staff meetings, in-services and continuing education sessions.
Other duties as assigned.

Professional Requirements:

Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Coordinates efforts in meeting regulatory compliance, federal, state and local regulations and standards
Communicates and complies with the Benefis Health System Mission, Vision and Values as well as the focus statement of the department.
Complies with Benefis Health System Organization Policies and Procedures.
Complies with Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines.
Education/Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or Equivalent.
Minimum of one year's medical office experience and/or customer service based experience.
Medical Terminology (or acquire within 6 months of employment)
