Family Support Worker

Responsibilities of the job:

Successful candidates will provide parenting skills training with parents and their children for the purpose of keeping families together in their homes. The skills building training sessions will include: coaching, teaching, and role modeling in a family’s home or community-based setting.

This position is an excellent position for candidates who what to make a real difference in their community with families in need and or persons wanting to gain experience to become a Social Worker or Behavioral Health Therapist.

We subscribe to a person-centered philosophy. Therefore, we provide our services to children and families when they are available which is typically day time hours for younger children and afternoons, evenings and weekends for school aged children and their families.

Required work experience:

At a minimum, a candidate needs to have at least two years of job-related or lived experience in any combination of the following:

Note: Experience requirement is waived if candidate possesses a Bachelor's Degree in one of the following areas: Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Early childhood Development, or a related field.

  • Experience can include childcare, as a parent, foster parent, babysitter or daycare worker.
  • Caregiving for children or adults.
  • Experience gained from working in an educational setting such as: a preschool, elementary, middle or high school or community based educational setting.
  • Working with children or adults in social services or healthcare, or any other human service professions.
  • Other experiences in the area of health and human services or related fields.

Skills:

  • Must be at least 19 years old
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Writing skills and computer skills
  • Demonstrates understanding and empathy for others
  • Pass background checks (Sexual Offenders Register, DHHS Central Registers for Adult Protective Services / Child Abuse and Neglect, and all Criminal Background Checks)
  • Pass a drug test upon hire and throughout employment
  • Current and valid driver’s License with an acceptable driving record
  • Maintain and provide copies of current Auto Insurance
  • Flexibility and the ability to handle change in a positive manner
  • Knowledge of normal family function, recognizing neglect, abuse or exploitation of children

Education:

  • Requires at a minimum a High School diploma or GED
  • Associate Degree in one of the above identified areas of study reduces the experience requirement to one year.
  • Bachelor's Degree in one of the above identified areas of study eliminates the experience requirement.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 45 per week
