Position Title: BUILDING SERVICES JOURNEYMAN PLUMBER

Department: Maintenance

Reports To: Building Services Plumbing/HVAC Foreman

JOB DEFINITION:

Under general supervision, the Building Services Plumber installs, repairs and maintains all district plumbing and heating systems; but includes the repair of pneumatic systems and maintenance of the steam and water distribution systems. The Building Services Plumber works under the supervision of the Building Services Plumbing/HVAC Foreman.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Repairs and replaces plumbing fixtures in restrooms, kitchens, showers and other areas.
  1. Installs and repairs steam, water and sewage pipes.
  1. Repairs kitchen equipment, mini-boilers, steam kettles and dishwashers.
  1. Repairs rain drain systems.
  1. Maintain parts and equipment ordering parts needed for quick and safe repair of plumbing fixtures.
  1. Contributes to the smooth operation of the maintenance department by coordinating work with other maintenance personnel to arrange equipment use.
  1. Fulfills other related duties as assigned.
  1. Fulfills the performance standards identified in the evaluation process as required by the position.
  1. Fulfills working conditions and physical effort listed below.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This employee can anticipate occasional exposure to inclement weather and the unpleasant conditions associated with sewer repairs. Climbing ladders and working in cramped conditions or small spaces is routine. Individual must be comfortable with heights up to 80 feet. Lifting and/or carrying of heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds are regular functions of this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

  • Operations, methods, practices, materials, tools, equipment and terminology used in the plumbing trade.
  • Occupational hazards and necessary safety practices.
  • Rules, regulations, procedures, functions and policies of the District.

Skills and Abilities:

Possess the physical ability to regularly attend work and fulfill the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Perform work requiring mechanical ability.
  • Follow oral and written instruction.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Implement safety regulations and accident prevention practices.
  • Read and understand blueprints, operation and maintenance manuals, drawings or sketches.
  • Identify equipment malfunctions and determine how they can be prevented and corrected.
  • Perform work independently without direct supervision or continuing guidance.
  • Learn maintenance techniques in those areas with little or no experience.
  • Read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate clearly in speech and writing.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance situations quickly.
  • Possess or obtain a valid Oregon driver’s license.
  • Possess or obtain the appropriate Journeyman Plumber license as required by the position and Oregon State law.
  • Communicate effectively with students, district employees and the public in a pleasant, courteous manner.
  • Write or print legibly.
  • Abide by confidentiality requirements.
  • Adhere to the District requirements for a drug-free workplace.
  • Apply an understanding of English appropriately in speech and in writing in accordance with educational standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent. Comprehensive knowledge of grammar and the ability to use correct speech and compose routine correspondence is required. The position requires the ability to understand technical instructions.

The position requires working knowledge of technical procedures or work activity areas and ability to teach them to others. In-depth knowledge of work-related School District policies and practices is necessary. Job proficiency can be acquired in twelve to twenty-four months.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSING:

  • Back-flow license needed for testing and repair of all District back-flow devices.
  • State of Oregon Back-flow certification or able to obtain within 6 months.
  • Oregon Journeyman Plumbing license.
