Plant Electrician

We are currently recruiting for the Plant Electrician to join the Benchmade Knife Company team. The Plant Electrician is responsible for installing and repairing electrical systems, apparatus and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints and other specifications. In addition, the Plant Electrician is responsible for assisting with machine and building maintenance as required. This role also troubleshoots and solves maintenance and facilities related matters as they arise and perform general electrical system predictive and preventative maintenance.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, test, install and repair electrical parts, equipment and systems.
  • Safely work with Multiphase electrical systems up to 480VAC.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve building electrical, control networks, instrumentation, PLC, HMI, VFD, servo and control problems.
  • Read and interpret work orders, safety rules, mechanical and electrical drawings, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Working knowledge of National, State, Local electrical and building codes (NEC, NFPA, OESC), OSHA and standard industry safety rules/regulations.
  • Perform prescribed Predictive and Preventative Maintenance.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records and document all work performed appropriately in facilities or maintenance computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Create work orders in CMMS for items seen or reported
  • Assist in maintaining parts and supplies inventory by reporting low supply levels to lead or supervisor
  • Ensure all paperwork is filled out in a clear, legible and accurate format, and completed with required information and documented.
  • Utilizing continuous improvement mindset, assist in identifying opportunities to improve processes.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Follow all required work safe practices. This would include wearing of all required PPE in designated areas, confined space safety, safe chemical handling, fall restraints, etc.
  • Report any electrical safety related issues to EHS and Facilities management immediately.
  • Works cross functionally to align strategic and tactical plans to support manufacturing equipment and general facility changes
  • Be the subject matter expert on building electrical systems and infrastructure
  • Repair and maintain all machine and facilities equipment and appliances
  • Assist with vendor management & direction of sourced infrastructure maintenance (HVAC, Compressors, VAC Pumps, Electrical, Building Access, etc.)
  • Ability to thoroughly document procedures and scope work on assigned work orders & tasks
  • Work cross functionally with facilities & maintenance leadership
  • Execute capital equipment justifications and installs
  • Be available on call 24/7 to respond to emergency situations pertaining to the physical plant, i.e. System failure, water leaks, power outage, etc.
  • Act as journeyman level mentor for LME apprenticeship program
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or GED equivalent, and a Registered Oregon Journeyman Electrician and minimum of 5 years of experience working as a journeyman electrician is required. Equivalency to the qualification standard will also be considered.
  • Registered Supervisory Journeyman Electrician would be a plus.
  • Ability to be certified to operate forklifts, scissors lift, overhead cranes and hoists to assist in material and personnel movement.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understand electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics, P&ID’s and sketches.
  • Advanced knowledge of troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of building and machine electrical systems
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge and capable in troubleshooting, replacing and working on AC and DC Servo drives
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge and capable in troubleshooting and working on CNC controls w/ hard-drives and flash memory.
  • Be able to diagnose, program, repair or replace PLC systems and controls as required.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge and capable in troubleshooting and replacement electrical systems with ability to take voltage, amperage, OHM or other in accordance with ladder and schematic diagrams and determine values.
  • Electrical/electronic knowledge/skill to include, but not limited to controls, magnetic starters, rotary switches, relays, solenoids, brakes, input/output devices for PLC’s, CNC and standard electrical wiring principles for AC (up to 480v. three phase) and DC systems as well as all associated building and interconnect electrical.
  • Knowledge of Preventive and Predictive Maintenance practices to drive continuous improvement
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations and requirements
  • Strong interpersonal skills; customer service oriented
  • Excellent skills in interpersonal communication and teamwork.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Work independently and possess a high level of self-motivation and initiative.
  • Effectively problem solve, prioritize, and follow through on assignments and projects

  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft word, Excel)
  • Skill in the practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions, practical algebra, geometric constructions, and essentials of trigonometry related to building and mechanical electrical systems and construction.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule as needed
  • Advanced ability to effectively problem solve, prioritize, and follow through on assignments and projects
  • Must have basic working knowledge and awareness to comply with all standard OSHA and State safety regulations and policies, RE: Lock Out Tag procedures for all types of equipment, proper handling of solvents and chemicals according to SDS sheets, vision, hearing and respiratory protection, and proper lifting techniques as may be required within the scope of the job at hand.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule as needed to support maintenance projects.
