Benaroya Research Institute is Hiring a Biostatistician I Near Seattle, WA

Overview

Combatting Immune Disease Through Data Analysis! Join our team to help fight immune diseases.

We need individuals to apply cutting edge statistical approaches to study the human immune system. We believe that understanding how the immune system functions both in health and in diseases like cancer and autoimmunity will lead to better patient care. We are looking for highly motivated and creative individuals who enjoy working in a multidisciplinary team-oriented environment to use statistical and computational approaches to discover new mechanisms, biomarkers, and therapies for immune-mediated diseases. The biostatistician will integrate with two teams: 1) our Center for Systems Immunology, a dynamic group of bioinformaticians, immunologists, and other data analysts, and 2) the Center for Interventional Immunology to help design and analyze data from clinical research studies.

Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) is an internationally recognized medical research institute committed to finding a cure for autoimmune and immune-mediated diseases, through a combination of basic and translational research programs. This means you can contribute to scientific advances that have a direct impact on people with these diseases, including type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, allergies, and asthma.

Responsibilities

The Biostatistician will apply biostatistics and statistics to the design, execution, analysis, and interpretation of clinical research results and associated mechanistic studies. By adding statistical rigor to all phases of the experimental process the biostatistician supports the ability to draw significant interpretation from these experiments with confidence.

Biostatisticians will work most effectively at the project level, so that they may be included from the earliest design phase, overseeing statistically oriented details of the project from beginning to end. This will necessarily include collaborative interactions with investigators and researchers across the organization. Biostatisticians will be expected to manage and maintain large collections of experimental and clinical profiling data from both public domain and internal programs.

  • Perform biostatistical analysis working with institute scientists, including generating quality control and data output reports, visualizations, and publication-quality graphics where appropriate.
  • Critically evaluate experimental design and generate statistical analysis plans.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with all levels of institute researchers, in a dynamic research environment to design and implement new immunological experiments.
  • Participate in writing quarterly reports, progress reports, proposals, and journal articles.
  • Keep informed of cutting-edge ideas, research, and technology, and apply them as appropriate.
  • Educate institute scientists in biostatistics through open door consulting, and classroom sessions.
  • Attend and present data at external scientific meetings and conferences as appropriate.
  • Meet established deadlines and milestones.
  • Comply with health & safety procedures and practices.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

All applications must include a cover letter. Other requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biostatistics, healthcare statistics, or other life science with a strong understanding of the principals of biostatistics, and 0-3 years related experience. Master’s degree preferred.
  • A focus or strength in one or more areas of biostatistics such as experimental design, analysis of clinical trials, novel modeling techniques, curation of complex datasets, data visualization, machine learning.
  • Demonstrates success in technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others as well as independent thought
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management, task organization and multi-tasking skills.
  • Has a solid understanding and knowledge of biostatistics and its application to scientific questions.
  • Proficiency with analysis software such as R/Bioconductor, SAS/JMP.
