TITLE: SUMMER CAMP NURSE

POSITION SUMMARY:

To assist in providing the fullest possible educational opportunity for each

student by minimizing absence due to illness and creating a climate of

health and well-being in all schools. The School Nurse is directly

responsible to the Summer Camp Program Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures and dispenses medications.
  2. Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered and injury or emergency illness.
  3. Makes recommendations to parents, summer camp program director and/or School Principal on health needs of individual students.
  4. Implements policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
  5. Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools.
  6. Assumes other general related responsibilities as may be assigned.
  7. Adheres to the adopted policies of the Bellingham School Committee.

SKILLS/ABILITY:

  1. A minimum of two years of child health, community health, or other relevant clinical nursing experience.
  2. Such alternatives to the above experiential requirements as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts, certification as School Nurse preferred.
  2. The applicant must have completed a bachelor’s in nursing or a master’s in Nursing degree from an accredited institution.
  3. Completion of an orientation program based on the requirements for delivery of school health services as defined by the Department of Public Health.
  4. Current CPR and first aid from a recognized provider.

SALARY: $33/hour

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to move about the classroom and can bend, sit, or stand frequently.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Summer Camp Students

DiPietro Elementary (Preschool – Grade 3), Stall Brook Elementary (Preschool – Grade 3) Bellingham Memorial School (grades 4-7) and Bellingham High School (grades 8-12), and Keough Memorial Academy (grades 7-12) is our therapeutic day school for students with special needs.
