Bellevue Montessori School is Hiring a Learning Specialist Near Bellevue, WA

Salary: $60,000 to $70,000 (based on 10 month calendar)

School Year: 2024-2025

Hours: 8:00 to 4:30PM Mondays to Fridays

Collaborate: Program Director, Head Teachers

Supervisor: School Director

Primary Functions of the Learning Specialist:

The Learning Specialist is responsible for assisting students with learning difficulties for children ages 5 to 12.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher and Learning Specialist credential 

  • Two or more years experience providing observation, intervention planning, and learning support for students with IEPs, 504s, and Behavior Support Plans.

  • Training in programs for students identified with Learning Difficulties including: dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia including training in Orton-Gillingham or other phonetic based interventions that support the Montessori Language curriculum.

  • Knowledge of ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dysgraphia, & Dyscalculia is critical;

  • Academic experience working with children with Learning Differences such as ADHD and autism.

  • Have created and put into practice interventions with children who need social, emotional, and executive functioning skill support. 

  • Proven ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with Montessori Teachers, Program Directors, School Director, and parents.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Punctual and flexible

  • Ability to relate to and inspire students in an encouraging and positive and professional manner

  • Use of technical skills that support record keeping and communication with parents, administration, and teaching staff.

  • Sharing knowledge with staff so that they are able to support student growth and development.

Learning Responsibilities:

  • Create, share, and follow through with Behavior Plans for students who have been diagnosed with a learning or behavioral issue including students with an IEP, 504, Behavior Plan, ADHD, or a Spectrum related diagnosis.
  • Applying knowledge of child growth and development and familiarity with the variety of ways that students may struggle with reading, spelling, writing, and math to support student progress at the Elementary and Kindergarten levels.;
  • Knowledge of current trends, research, and best practices to support skill development in children who struggle with reading, writing, math, behavior, and executive function skills.;
  • Utilize assessment tools to effectively evaluate a student’s reading, spelling, and math abilities, and to analyze those results to prescribe goals and actions for learning support intervention.
  • Ability to develop a rapport with students that encourages students to take on and stick with challenging work in both small groups (2-5 children) and one-on-one scenarios;
  • Effectively and sensitively communicate learning difficulties, goals, and intervention plans in conversations with parents;
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Administration, Teachers, Teachers’ Assistants, and parents to support identified interventions in the classroom and at home;
  • Appreciation of and willingness to learn about Montessori education is essential;
  • Flexibility, creativity, critical thinking, self-motivation, strong organization skills;
  • Ability to use technology such as Google Office and Classroom, and willingness to learn our parent communication platform, Transparent Classroom;
  • Keeping all parties informed and willingness to have sensitive emails pre-approved so that all school personnel are aware of parent communication.
