Bellarmine Preparatory School is Hiring a THEOLOGY FACULTY Near Tacoma, WA

Position: Theology Teacher

Job Overview:

A Theology Teacher at Bellarmine Preparatory School is responsible for instructing students in the principles, doctrines, and teachings of the Catholic faith within the Ignatian tradition. The teacher will foster an understanding of religious values, ethics, and social justice, encouraging students to integrate these principles into their lives. Additionally, the Theology Teacher will contribute to the school's mission of promoting academic excellence, spiritual growth, and service to others.


Core Functions and Duties:

  • Curriculum Development:

    • Design and implement a comprehensive theology curriculum that aligns with the school's mission and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
    • Integrate Ignatian spirituality, Jesuit values, and social justice themes into lesson plans.
  • Instruction and Classroom Management:

    • Facilitate engaging and interactive classroom discussions that encourage critical thinking and reflection on theological concepts.
    • Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Assessment and Feedback:

    • Evaluate student performance through assessments, projects, and examinations.
    • Use formative assessment to inform instruction and help students self-assess their progress and summative assessments.
    • Assessments designed with the professional learning community.
    • Provide timely and constructive feedback to help students improve their understanding of theological concepts.
  • Student Support:

    • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect and understanding.
    • Nurture students' spiritual growth through prayer, retreats, and other religious activities.
    • Provide guidance and mentorship to students seeking a deeper understanding of their faith.
    • Collaborate with student support programs including counselors, tutors, and testing center to implement early intervention and promote acceleration.

    • Integrate Ignatian values into daily interactions and classroom activities.
    • Actively contribute to the spiritual and moral development of students in alignment with Jesuit principles.
  • Collaboration and Professional Development:

    • Collaborate with colleagues to create interdisciplinary learning experiences and to create a cohesive and supportive educational environment.
    • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and incorporate innovative instructional strategies.
    • Strong collaboration in professional learning communities that work towards common goals.
    • Stay informed about developments in theology, religious education, and Ignatian pedagogy.
  • Community Involvement and Engagement:

    • Communicate effectively with parents, keeping them informed about students' progress and any concerns.
    • Actively participate in the school's faith community, attending religious events, Masses, and service projects.
    • Actively participate in supporting the school’s admission efforts.
    • Engage with the wider community to promote the school's mission and values.

Competencies:

  • Ability to teach various Theology courses and age levels.
  • Understanding of educational theory and practice.
  • Ability to teach a full range of courses offered by the department.
  • Ability to use current learning management technology.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to working with a diverse student body.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Theology, Religious Studies, or a related field.
  • Catechetical certification is desired.
  • Teaching certification desired or relevant education credentials.
  • Understanding and commitment to Jesuit education and Ignatian spirituality.
  • Experience in teaching theology or related subjects, preferably at the high school level.
  • Familiarity with Jesuit education principles and a commitment to Bellarmine’s mission.

Compensation:

  • Salary is determined using the Faculty Pay Scale, based on education level and years of experience (scale ranges from BA, Tier 1: $53,585 to MA 90 or Ph.D., Tier 25 : $102,617 - for full-time position).

Benefits:

The expected initiation of hiring for the position is set for the 2024-2025 school year.
