SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The purpose of this job is to manage the direction and supervision of activities of all pump shop personnel to service and repair customer’s pumping equipment while achieving budget and company standards for revenue, profit, quality, customer service and safety.

SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Assist the Area Manager in preparing a business plan for the pump shop and implement actions that will achieve annual year over year growth as measured by revenue, market share and profit.
  • Direct and manage pump shop technical, customer service and administrative staffs to grow revenue by securing new business in new markets and expanding business with existing clients.
  • Create an organizational culture and work environment that attracts, retains, and motivates a skilled work force.
  • Manage and/or generates sales orders from Pump Service Records (PSR) for pump product line and Phone Order forms for sucker rod pumps and supply products for items sold to customers.
  • Achieve standards for pump shop operations and implement corrective action plans when standards are not met.
  • Manage the Purchase Order process for product purchased for resale.
  • Report monthly results and forecasts to Area Manager, explain variances, and plans to grow positive variances and to reduce and eliminate negative variances. Report assessment of business risks and plans to mitigate risks.
  • Monitors and controls expenses of the district and keeps within levels of approved budgets. Audits expense reports of all district personnel.
  • Presents well reports to customers and attends customer failure analysis meeting on a routine basis.
  • Continually monitors inventory levels to assure compliance with company goals.
  • Prepares and submits for processing the Suggested Order Report (SOR) and special purchases for inventory needs.
  • Orders inventory, supplies and other items required to meet customer and shop requirements.
  • Reviews and completes all documentation required in the transacting of pumps, sucker rods, supplies and safety equipment sales. Understands and fully completes the Pump Service Record (PSR) for all new/repaired pumps serviced by the pump shop.
  • Responsible for accuracy of inbound and outbound freight shipments.
  • Assists in solving problems with pump, rods, and supplies as well as applications.
  • Conducts classroom training of customer personnel using company training tools.
  • Responsible for the proper care and maintenance of company equipment assigned to area.
  • Advises Sales about customer equipment requirements.
  • Discusses with customer future requirements and assist in solving problems associated with pump, rods, safety products and supplies and the application of these products.
  • Advises Sales of reason for repair of pump equipment, potential problems and may recommend changes in metallurgy and equipment required to meet customer needs.
  • Takes telephone calls from customers for service work and equipment sales and completes necessary paperwork. May prepare sales quotations and quotes prices for equipment to customers.
  • Ensure relationships with customers are managed and the company is professionally represented.
  • Personally call on key accounts to maintain and secure long-term business relationships.
  • Occasionally perform the duties of a pump shop technician during peak periods, such as repairing pumps.
  • Comply with and ensure department compliance with Company health, safety, and environmental policies.
  • Continuously improve a safe work environment culture and meet or exceed TRIR goals.
  • Ensure the protection of company intellectual property and all other assets.
  • Ensure compliance with the Company code of Ethics and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures for ethics and corporate governance, and all national and international laws and regulations.
  • Comply with all applicable U.S. export control and security regulations. 
  • Maintains company assigned vehicle in condition as required by company policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EHS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Complete all work in a safe manner and follow all safety requirements consistent with supporting the company’s TRIR goals
  • Follow all environmental requirements consistent with supporting the company’s environmental performance goals
  • Complete, and actively participate in all the company’s safety training requirements
  • Maintain a clean driving record in accordance with company insurance policy

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education/Experience: Minimum of 5 years experience in oilfield industry and minimum of 12 years of education, or, 3-5 years experience in related industry with BS or higher education.
  • Knowledge/Skills: This manager role requires good mental abilities and attitudes, as well as a strong commitment to leadership.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer literate with good working knowledge of database programs.
  • Requires comprehensive knowledge of products sold and serviced by the organization including the application of those products.
  • Has knowledge of the operational standards, policies and procedures, personnel management and administrative requirements or a combination of the qualifications established above.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time, including sitting in a vehicle; a minimum of 2 hours and often up to 4 hours.
  • Must be able to maneuver to all areas of a pump shop or warehouse, and to all allowable areas of a well site or other job sites.
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to safely mount and dismount from the back of a truck, and bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at area.
  • Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate hand tools and mechanical tools such as a wench.
  • Must be able to work at a fast pace.
  • Must be able to tolerate changing priorities, and complete assignments despite frequent interruptions.
  • Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
  • Must be able to drive a one-ton pick-up truck.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environment is typically considered in a pump shop, within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours. Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites, and meeting venues, extensive time off site while traveling or to other location as required.
