Your role at BHSN:
As a Peer Specialist, you will provide engagement and support in the community and/or office setting as a member of the clinic team including assisting with risk assessments, brief interventions, care management and follow up support post crisis or post appointment. At the discretion of the program director, may be assigned to train and supervise other staff as deemed appropriate. Expected to provide excellent patient care and compassion in every counter, aligned with the organizations core values.

Assigned clinical programs may include, and are not limited to, outpatient behavioral health clinics, school-based services, crisis services, substance abuse services, and rehabilitative programs.

What your day might look like:

  • Provides support and care to those engaged in services or treatment
  • Identifies healthy community opportunities for individuals to socialize and interact; promote these opportunities as directed by the care coordinator or other care provider
  • Connects and supports individuals during treatment
  • Assists in the delivery of evidenced based interventions
  • Assists in the development of and adherence to community safety plans

Your skills and qualifications:

  • High-school graduate or GED.
  • Certification for Peer Recovery Advocate required per OASAS requirement
  • Personal experience with Mental Health recovery-oriented treatment.
  • Extensive knowledge with PC applications and electronic medical records strongly preferred.
  • Valid NYS driver’s license and reliable transportation required for local and regional travel.
