Role Overview: 

The Senior AM Engineer is a dynamic position whose function is to develop, manage, and support the metal 3D printing process for use in development of components for Aerospace and Defense applications. This position will be involved in and driving a diversified range of Design for AM of metallic parts and components in Aerospace and Defense. This role will take the lead to support design for multiple application development, explore and qualify current and new software solutions to support design and manufacturing of AM components, as well as support our customer AM design requirements. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Digest customer requirements and develop manufacturing production plans (including manufacturing drawings, manufacturing plans, work instructions, contract reviews, etc.) which meet customer and industry requirements
  • Develop, communicate, and execute solutions for problems that arise during manufacturing process including prevention and disposition of non-conformances
  • Occasionally interface with customers to establish project requirements and/or to ensure clear communication of technical details
  • Prepare additive build files with novel and optimized support strategies for development and production prints
  • Drive and shape standard policies, processes, templates, and procedures for the engineering work
  •  Drive engineering’s learning and lead the implementation of the training as well as supporting and accompanying engineering and manufacturing guideline documentation
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Design for metal AM technologies, industry best practices, and best software solutions to support our customers’ Design for AM activities
  • Manage a team of engineers workload to ensure successful execution to deadlines provided.
  • Integrate with shop team leads as needed to incorporate feedback that improves AM file development, processing, and inspection.

Basic Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Sciences, or close disciplines
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing with a minimum of 5 of those years in additive manufacturing
  • Ability to execute responsibilities independently with minimal day-to-day oversight.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills to include report writing, requirements derivation, and documentation
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with cross-departmental teams of staff and executives
  • Willingness to work extended hours and/or weekends during mission critical activities
  • Willingness to get hands-on in a shop environment, especially when dealing with nonconformance resolution.

 Preferred:

  • AS9100/ISO9001 or equivalent (automotive, medical, etc.) experience
  • Strong additive manufacturing simulation experience including pre-deformation/compensation
  • Experience developing parameters for new materials
  • Management and/or technical team leader experience
  • Previous start-up experience
  • Solidworks experience
  • Magics and EOSPrint experience
