District Communications/Instructional Technology Coordinator

Job Summary:

The school district communications and instructional technology coordinator oversees all aspects of communication within the school district, including public relations, media relations, internal communications, and community engagement. They develop and execute communication strategies to promote the district's initiatives, achievements, and events while maintaining a positive public image. In the role of instructional technology coordinator, this person helps to develop and implement technology integration strategies to enhance teaching and learning across the district. This will require collaboration with the district curriculum department. This role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and excellent communication skills. Experience with Microsoft Office and G Suite is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Developing Communication Strategies: Create comprehensive communication plans that align with the district's goals and objectives.
  2. Media Relations: Serve as the primary contact for media inquiries, prepare press releases, and manage media relations to ensure accurate and positive coverage.
  3. Public Relations: Develop and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including parents, community members, local businesses, and government officials.
  4. Internal Communications: Facilitate effective communication within the district, including newsletters, emails, and other internal communication channels.
  5. Crisis Communication: Develop protocols and strategies for handling crisis situations and manage communication during emergencies.
  6. Digital Communication: Oversee the district's website, social media accounts, and other digital platforms to ensure consistent messaging and engagement.
  7. Event Management: Coordinate and promote district events, such as public forums, and community outreach initiatives.
  8. Brand Management: Protect and enhance the district's brand reputation through strategic messaging and branding initiatives.
  9. Instructional Technology Support: Collaborate with educators and administrators to identify instructional technology needs and provide ongoing support and training.
  10. Software Management: Work in collaboration with the curriculum team and IT department to manage the selection, implementation, and evaluation of educational technology resources and software. 
  11. Professional Development: Lead professional development sessions and workshops on effective technology integration practices.
  12. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with district administrators, school leaders, teachers, and staff to ensure cohesive communication efforts across the district.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Education: Bachelor's degree 
  2. Proven experience in communications, public relations, or media relations, preferably in an educational or public sector setting.
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft clear and compelling messages for diverse audiences.
  4. Leadership and management skills to lead a team of communication professionals and collaborate with stakeholders.
  5. Crisis communication experience and the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
  6. Proficiency in digital communication tools, social media platforms, and content management systems.
  7. Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities to develop and execute communication strategies that achieve organizational goals.
  8. Interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  9. Knowledge of education policies, practices, and trends is a plus.
