School Psychologist
Description:
School psychologists are uniquely qualified members of school teams that support students' ability to learn and teachers' ability to teach. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally.
Responsibilities:
Performance Responsibilities:
Conduct psycho-educational screenings and assessments
Advise and assist staff on effective remedial measures as they apply to different learning styles and behavioral issues
Participate as required during crisis situations
Provide therapeutic intervention as needed
Consults with parents, and outside therapist/agencies as appropriate to provide the necessary services/resources to students
Perform any and all such duties as may fall within the scope of the positions and as may be required by the Director of Special Education or building principal
Essential Functions of the Job:
Must possess the ability to:
Conduct the psychological assessments for the TEAM evaluations under Special Education law and in such a manner as to:
Review the educationally relevant information about students; Design and administer a relevant assessment battery; Prepare a written report of the findings; Summarize assessment findings and recommend pertinent educational strategies/programming at the TEAM meeting, which contribute to the development of a potential Individualized Education Program (IEP)
Attend TEAM meetings of evaluated students
Interpret psychological, psychiatric and neurological reports to members of TEAM, when possible
Consult with Special Education personnel on testing and students when such consultation is requested
Prepare and maintain such records as required or ne to facilitate a flow of Information among staff and others
Participate in crisis response teams at appropriate grade levels

Must be able to:
Provide short-term therapeutic intervention as required
Consult and collaborate with parents, school staff and outside personnel regarding mental health, behavioral and educational concerns, including prevention-oriented approaches, and implementation of the District Curriculum Accommodation Plan
Serve as a liaison to other TEAM members for designated students eligible for special education services
Participate in behavioral intervention planning, including functional behavioral assessments, behavioral intervention plans and manifestation determinations as required by IDEA

Ability to work in a normal office environment, as well as in the school environment
Ability to move freely about the building
Ability to utilize computers and other administrative technologies appropriate to the position
Ability to access personal transportation as required for performance of daily responsibilities at district work sites and off-site as needed
