Electro-mechanical Maintenance Technician

General Description and Objectives

An Electro-Mechanical Tech I will repair, operate, maintain, and calibrate electro-mechanical equipment including drive systems, position sensors, cabling, and automatic production equipment. This individual would need to be a critical thinker, analytical problem solver, and organized. This position is also responsible for preventative/predictive maintenance as necessary to maximize equipment uptime, production, quality, and safety for all paper-tissue/plastic converting machinery. Converting equipment includes but is not limited to folders, laminators, re-winders, and core machines.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Complete assigned preventative maintenance actions utilizing developed standards as prescribed by OEM and engineering specifications, includes minor and major overhauls, calibration, detailed inspections, and basic cleaning and lubricating.
  • Assist with trouble-shooting electrical and PLC issues with equipment.
  • Respond to operator, quality, or management requests regarding equipment specifications.
  • Read and understand electrical line drawings, ladder diagrams etc.
  • Repair and maintain equipment, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications.
  • Maintain and repair existing electrical infrastructure using drawings and blueprints.
  • Operate the following: MIG Welder, Plasma Cutter, Torch, Jet Milling Machine, Lathes.
  • Communicate with maintenance teammates, Facility & Converting Reliability Manager and VP of Operations at shift changes regarding current/active:
  • · Safety issues
  • · Quality issues
  • · Production status and issues
  • Understand and comply with Electro-Mechanical Tech II, Facility & Converting Reliability Manager and VP of Operations directions and guidelines, including:
  • · Product-specific quality requirements
  • · Production targets and machine capabilities
  • Support production staffing needs.
  • Reliable resource for all set up’s, change over’s and trials.
  • Regular safety observance (includes facility, machines, and industrial trucks).
  • Accountable for quality assurance.
  • Perform frequent machine and product inspections, including trouble-shooting machine issues.
  • Evaluate shift for regular continuous improvement proposals.
  • Control and evaluate waste.
  • Ensure facility and machine housekeeping guidelines are followed.
  • Trained and certified in the operation of powered industrial trucks and fire extinguisher use.
  • All other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Must have high school diploma, or G.E.D.
  • Electro-Mechanical Certificate or Associate Degree a plus.
  • Previous experience with electro-mechanical maintenance in a paper industry production environment is preferred.
  • Previous experience using electronic testing equipment, along with reading blueprints and schematics preferred.
  • Strong with electrical systems and strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and understand machine manuals.
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance procedures and associated documentation.
  • Proficiency on a PC including Microsoft Office is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management.
  • Possess excellent problem solving skills and ability to think outside the box to drive production improvement.
  • Positive attitude with a solid team mentality.
  • Strong work ethic with an exceptional ability to learn and a desire to continuously improve.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse work environment.
  • Reliable with a great attendance record and work history.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed.
  • Capable of standing 8-12 hours. Ability to work on projects that require standing for extended periods, using hands/fingers to handle/feel, reaching with hands/arms, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and/or lifting 50 pounds, often in hot environments.
  • Pre-employment drug screening and background check required.
