What is the Opportunity?

Reporting to the Manager of Operations, the EHS Manager will support Beckers Global Sustainability Strategy through initiatives focusing on people, products, and operations. They will administer environmental health, safety, and programs and ensure compliance with US regulations in manufacturing sites in Elk Grove Village, IL and Fontana, CA. The EHS Manager will increase awareness of EHS concerns and drive engagement in EHS initiatives at both US sites. This is a full-time exempt position that will be required to work various hours as needed. Candidates must be based in the Chicagoland area. This position is onsite, and candidates must be able to travel to our Fontana, CA location as needed. The salary range for the position is $95,000 - $120,000; based on skills and qualifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Environmental:

• Stay current on changes to EPA/ DOT compliance requirements.
• Create programs for regulatory compliance. Review and revise as needed.
• Provide training programs appropriate to job function for all employees.
• Record keeping per requirements in various facility permits, training and incident reports.
• Oversee required regulatory reporting.
• Sustainability: Lead contact for Beckers US sustainability reporting. Look for ways to reduce or recycle waste from the sites. Assist in implementation of sustainability initiatives.

Health and Safety:

• Stay current on changes to OSHA compliance requirements.
• Create programs for regulatory compliance. Review and revise as needed.
• Provide training programs appropriate to job function for all employees.
• Record keeping for training and incident reports.
• Administer Safety Observation/ Near miss database for US facilities.
• Administer SDS database in the US for raw materials and finished goods.

General EHS:

• Audit facilities, (Elk Grove Village IL, and Fontana CA), directly or with the use of a third-party contractor for compliance with US regulatory and Beckers Corporate requirements. Assist Fontana site Management with internal audits. Assign corrective actions and make recommendations as required.
• Oversight and participation in Incident investigations. Report to US authorities or Beckers Global management as required.
• Management representative for US Regulatory visits. Respond to requests for information or corrective actions as needed.
• Beckers Loss Prevention Coordinator (LPC): Review compliance with Beckers Loss Prevention Standard and report to Global Director of EHS. Monthly reports on US EHS activities and events to Global EHS.
• Run environmental data reports for our products sold to customers, to assist with their regulatory reporting.

Quality:

• Oversee the administration of all ISO programs at the US sites.
• Report results from Internal Audits, Customer Surveys, and other ISO developments to the US management team.
• Analyze NCR data and report to the Management team.
• Oversee management of change. Review changes to facilities, processes, equipment, and raw materials to ensure compliance to US regulations and Beckers corporate polices.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in related field a degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with experience in compliance in the coating industry.
• 2 years' experience with EHS in a related chemical industry.
• Knowledge of common industrial statistical tools is required.
• Computer literate in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• RCRA hazardous waste training is required within 6 months of taking the position and annually thereafter.
• Continual education is also needed to stay current with changing requirements.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Work experience in the coatings industry or relevant experience with EHS compliance in a related chemical industry.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate with internal departments.
• Strong analytical and decision-making capability within a team-oriented environment is highly desired.
• To recognize that health and safety is a responsibility of every employee and to take reasonable care of oneself and others and to comply with Becker's Health and Safety policy and any Becker's procedures/rules that apply to the role. All employees have the responsibility to highlight unsafe conditions and EHS Managers, Officers, Supervisors and above have the responsibility to shut down any activity if it is operating in an unsafe condition.

Physical Requirements:

• Office environment: ability to sit for potential prolonged periods of time.
• Employee may be exposed occasionally to excessive noise, moving machinery, marked changes in temperature and/or humidity.
• Employee may also be exposed occasionally to dust, fumes, gases, chemicals.
