As a major contractor engaged in design and construction of large-scale projects globally, Bechtel has delivered projects in some of the most challenging ground conditions; thus, we are looking to add to its India offices geotechnical engineers seeking challenging projects requiring geotechnical investigation program development and execution, design of complex ground improvement systems, deep foundation design and installation, advanced finite element modelling for geotechnical analysis, and other geotechnical-related project activities.

Job SummaryIn this role, you will provide field oversight of earthworks activities at the project site. This will include ensuring compliance with Bechtel’s specification, participating in QC oversight activities, reporting, coordination with the project home office geotechnical staff, etc. You may also be asked to conduct field investigations and plan specifications for project geotechnical design. You will oversee the field and laboratory, conduct studies, and interpret regulations. You will participate in new business efforts and proposal preparation including identifying client needs and developing cost estimates. Your expertise will help ensure geotechnical project aspects meet project requirements .
Major ResponsibilitiesLevel 1
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard geotechnical engineering methods preparing specifications for subsurface investigations for new and existing facilities
  • Performs and may lead geotechnical analyses such as stability of soil and rock slopes, rock excavation and slope protection, bearing capacity and settlement of shallow foundations, lateral earth pressures, and axial and lateral pile capacities
  • Prepares geotechnical engineering reports and presents the results of the investigations and reports to members of the project team
  • Coordinates civil or structural engineering designs with geotechnical assessments
  • Communicates geotechnical issues with the project team during the engineering design stage of the project
  • During the construction phase of projects, responsibilities may include overview of earthwork operations, monitoring of pile installation and load testing, inspection of critical foundation subgrade, and monitoring of ground improvement
  • Oversees outside geotechnical consultants hired by Bechtel or the client to perform these tasks
Level 2
  • Provides oversight of geotechnical analyses such as stability of soil and rock slopes, rock excavation and slope protection, bearing capacity and settlement of shallow foundations, lateral earth pressures, and axial and lateral pile capacities
  • Conducts review of geotechnical interpretative reports and works with geotechnical consultants to produce high quality co-coordinated submissions
  • Assists with and advises on earthwork operations, inspection of earthworks and monitoring of ground improvement during the construction phase of projects
  • Provides input to reports and may provide technical assistance to other geotechnical personnel
  • Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project requirements related to addressing issues as they arise during project execution
Education And Experience RequirementsLevel 1
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
Level 2
  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge And SkillsThis role will support the earthworks operations at the project site. Other responsibilities may include development and implementation of geotechnical investigations, origination and review of geotechnical engineering designs and specifications, engineering calculations and preparation and review of geotechnical studies in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. The work will require tracking scope of work, schedule, and budgets and with coordinating with other technical disciplines in a team environment. Specific tasks will include (but not limited to):
  • On site technical supervision of earthworks activities
  • Developing geotechnical design parameters for soil and/or rock supported foundations
  • Bearing capacity and settlement calculations
  • Soil and rock slope stability analyses
  • Soil and/or rock excavations support
  • Engineering specifications including earthworks, piling, soil and/or rock excavation support, etc.
  • Preparing or checking technical memos, reports, etc.
  • Review vendor submittals and integrate information into the design solution.
  • Execute to schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product.
  • Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team.
