Job Title: Business Analyst

Division: IT

Reports To: As per Beazley's organizational chart

Key Relationships: Underwriting, Claims and support staff, IT Development team, IT Operations team, all staff.

Job Summary: To be responsible for the analysis and requirements definition for Underwriting systems. To develop and maintain excellent relationships with people in all relevant departments in Beazley.

FLSA: Exempt

  • Comply with any specific responsibilities necessary for your role as outlined by your line manager, the Talent Management development or assurance teams (compliance, risk, internal audit) and ensure you keep up to date with developments in these areas. This may include, amongst others, Beazley's underwriting control standards, Beazley's claims control standards, other Beazley standards and customer relationship management.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as individually notified, either through your objectives or through the learning management system. These may include membership of any Beazley committees or working groups.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Analyst Activities:

  • Cross-organization collaboration to define and document comprehensive business and system requirements.
  • Document business requirements in such a manner that development design teams are able to translate business requirements to deliver the required functionality.
  • Ensure the business team(s) is involved appropriately in the requirements definition of solutions and that appropriate acceptance criteria are documented for fully testing the business capability.
  • Work within a variety of project and solution design frameworks as required at Beazley, including scrum and use case tools or any other approach agreed within the team.
  • Employ a number of techniques when eliciting requirements from business representatives including interviewing and facilitating workshops.
  • Define and document the data mapping between the legacy systems and any new systems.
  • Assisting product manager with advocating for the business, prioritization activities, and scrum team oversight.
  • Help formulate and challenge new IT approaches and systems required to improve business productivity and profitability.
  • Contribute to the identification and design of innovative solutions to address business needs.
  • Actively participate within the North American underwriting IT team, offering creative options to improve methods of working and intra team collaboration.
  • Work closely with the development team members to ensure that applications and systems deliver the business requirements elicited during the project lifecycle.
  • Work with the architecture and data team to promote best practises and investigate opportunities to improve the system landscape.

Outputs:

  • During discovery activity
  • Detail business requirements accurately interpreted for IT use.
  • Detail end to end process maps (in conjunction with and confirmed by the business) where required.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and the associated costs and benefits.
  • Detail functional and non-functional requirements for agreement by the project stakeholders.
  • During design and build activity
  • Detail change requirements accurately interpreted for IT use.
  • During test and release activity
  • Identify and develop training needs of user community.
  • Detail any emerging changes / fixes requiring new specifications.
  • Responsible for the successful delivery a quality product including but not limited to user acceptance training (UAT)
  • Relationships
  • Develop relationships with senior management and staff in all relevant areas of Beazley and ensure that there is an open and constructive dialogue regarding IT needs and issues.
  • Ensure that all relevant staff receive clear and frequent updates regarding business analytical tasks and progress as necessary.
  • Work with all in the business to elevate the perception and capability of IT.

Personal Specification:

Education and Qualifications

  • Graduate equivalent education and/or qualifications

Skills and Abilities

  • Good grounding in all aspects of IT
  • Understanding of underwriting systems and operations
  • Understanding of business strategy and the work of the other departments within the organisation
  • Ability to see the big picture and have experience of successfully shaping strategic issues through to implementation.
  • Able to coordinate inputs from several departments, in order to reach a shared vision for IT requirements.
  • Demonstrable structured techniques for evaluating business processes and documenting user requirements.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Proven experience in IT within the specialty insurance sector or similar, fulfilling business analysis responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of various analysis and project management tools covering scope definition, requirements documentation and progress reporting

Salary for this role will be tailored to the successful individual's location and experience. The expected compensation range for this position is $68,000.00 - $88,000.00 per year plus discretionary annual bonus. You will be able to discuss your salary expectations should you be contacted about this role.
