Beauvoir School is Hiring a Summer Program Counselors 2024 Near Washington, DC

Beauvoir, The National Cathedral Elementary School is looking for enthusiastic, thoughtful camp counselors, and Swim Staff to lead, support, and motivate children as they enjoy all that the camp has to offer. You should be positive, proactive, and caring while focusing on offering our camper an enjoyable, safe camp experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meet with colleagues to plan and prepare lessons/activities.
  • Serve and distribute snacks.
  • Enforces camp rules and regulations and ensures safety in the recreational facilities.
  • Reports camper complaints to leadership and works to resolve issues.
  • Lead activities/projects.
  • Supervise and engage the children during inside and outside recess and play.
  • Encourage and guide children as they interact in activities with other children.
  • Help maintain a neat, clean, and organized environment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Other Responsibilities

  • Enthusiastic and positive attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and enforce the camps’ safety and operating rules.
  • Must attend staff meetings and orientation during the summer season.
  • Be punctual and reliable with attendance
  • Provide appropriate programming for the assigned age group, and follow the schedules and themes provided.
  • Be comfortable participating in and/or leading lessons/activities
  • Be patient, flexible, and able to work collaboratively with children and adults
  • Be able to handle challenging behaviors in a way that encourages children to learn from the situation
  • Be able to communicate professionally with children, parents, and colleagues

Work Experience

  • Experience with and/or education in elementary-aged children
  • Willingness to develop professionally
  • High dependability with a strong work ethic

General Requirements

  • Passing periodic background checks, FBI background check and, at the discretion of the school, drug and alcohol screening
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Mature judgment and discretion; ability to maintain confidentiality and composure under pressure
  • Consistent and prompt attendance
  • Compliance with the provisions of the Beauvoir Faculty & Staff Handbook

Working Conditions (schedule, Physical Demands, And Work Environment):

  • The position is a Summer Job, in-person position
  • The position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending and stooping in the performance of daily activities
  • The position requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard
  • The position requires near and far vision for reading and preparing written reports and other documents
  • Acute hearing is also required when providing phone assistance
  • The need to lift, drag, push and pull files, reports and other materials weighing up to 25 pounds is required
