As our first in-house Scientific Writer, you will report to the Director of R&D and support the R&D team with general scientific writing needs related to skin science, cosmetic science, formulation, stability studies, product compliance, consumer perception, and other related topics. You will join an innovative and entrepreneurial team to produce high-quality scientific communications to support Good Molecules' product development goals, community education, and our primary mission of helping people see a difference in their skin.

 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Write, edit, and finalize external technical communications intended for science peers, dermatologists, or the general public
  • Write, edit, and finalize protocols, synopses, scripts, regulatory documents, and scientific documents (such as abstracts, posters, presentations, reports, invention disclosures, and manuscripts)
  • Work closely with the R&D team, consultants, and CROs to ensure that results and messages in scientific and regulatory documents accurately reflect the data produced and/or collected
  • Ensure that documents are clearly written, scientifically accurate, and prepared according to established timelines and submission specifications
  • Suggest or identify changes, modifications, and improvements to the document preparation processes and templates to improve quality, efficiency, and productivity
  • Prepare publication-quality figures as necessary for scientific and or technical marketing publications
  • Manage submissions and revisions of scientific publications to relevant journals and publishers
  • Conduct literature or patent searches and prepare citations per specifications
  • Perform occasional data entry tasks in the company’s scientific and regulatory databases
  • Keep up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments and trends
  • Organize and maintain the company’s digital technical content library
 

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, or related sciences is strongly preferred; a Master’s Degree 4 years of relevant experience in scientific writing may be considered.
  • Passion for skin science, dermatology, skincare, cosmetics, and/or personal care and a strong technical foundation in two or more of the following: emulsions, formulation technology, cosmetic science, shelf-life studies, or skin biology.
  • Excellent writing skills and proven publication experience, with lead authorship in at least 3 documents.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including experience presenting scientific data
  • Ability to translate scientific communication to the general public: experience producing scientific content for social media is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to accuracy, with the ability to independently interpret and transform scientific and statistical data.
  • Exceptional dedication to ethics, including the ability to preserve the confidentiality of all technical information, processes, data, and intellectual property.
  • Excellent time management and demonstrated experience delivering results in an environment with competing priorities and tight timelines.
  • Ability to be productive with minimal supervision and contribute with positivity and professionalism in a small team environment.
 

General Requirements & Employment Details:

  • Employment Eligibility: must have current US work authorization
  • Verbal & Written English Fluency: full business and scientific language fluency, including correct spelling and grammar, is required.
  • Technology Acumen: competency with GSuite and/or Microsoft applications (Word/Docs, Sheets/Excel, Slides/Powerpoint, etc.), comfort using digital communication tools (Slack, Zoom, etc.), and the ability to operate on MacOS.
  • Hybrid Work Model: This is intended to be a “hybrid” position that will report to our Philadelphia, PA lab; fully remote employment may be considered depending on experience.
  • Compensation: This is an exempt W-2 position with a targeted base salary range of $65-100k, depending on education level and experience. Benefits include Medical, Dental, & Vision Insurance, 401(k) with 6% employer match, competitive PTO, Work From Home stipend, and a great employee discount.
